I won’t have access to my team’s control system until Monday, so I was wondering if any teams meeting tomorrow who had any sort of a control system set up yet could do me a favor…go to the link below, and download the Dashboard Viewer beta 1. Then just hook up your OI to COM1, install the software, and see what it does…sorry, but yes, it does have to be COM1 for now, this will be fixed in the end. If you need it set for a different COM port, let me know and I can recompile the beta to use a different port and send it to you.

If you do this, please e-mail me at [email protected] with the exact wording of any error messages that appear(i hope none do, i’ve already fixed a few) as well as general information as to how it worked(or didn’t work!) Thanks!

Nate Smith

PS - This beta is just to make sure that the decoding functions work correctly. If they do, then I will clean up the code and release it…

Very shortly, I will be posting a NEW Dashboard.exe beta preview that uses my decoder library. I was notified shortly after posting of a few errors in the program, which I have corrected, and am currently working on a more robust UI for seeing all of the information passed through the Dashboard Port. As soon as is this completed, it will be posted to the same URL as mentioned in my message above. It should be completed by 11:30pm EST, and will be online at that time if not before.

To use the new program, download and install the old version that can be found at the link below. After doing this, download the new EXE file and copy it over the one installed by the setup program. Thanks to everybody who’s volunteered to beta test it!

Thanks to team #470, I was able to perform extensive testing on the Dashboard Decoder library today, and have just finished making the new code much cleaner and a bit more reliable. Download the final beta(hopefully) at the link below.

Well, I’ve gotten a few e-mails already asking for the source, so I just uploaded it, rather than e-mail it out to everybody…if you need help figuring anything else out, just drop me a line…

Well, I think this is a new record for the most posts by one person in a thread…and probably about the only time that a single person has been the only one talking on a thread with this many messages in it…but, just wanted to share the latest additions for those of you thinking about writing a custom dashboard program…

The latest revision to my Dashboard Decoder library includes the following:

  • ‘CommError’ event to notify the user if there is a problem communicating with the OI.
  • The program will no longer crash if the OI is reset!
  • Also, documentation is included as to how to use the library to start writing your own UI.

This program should be available before midnight EST for testing by those of you who are meeting tomorrow(Sunday - I know there’s a few out there.) In order to keep easier track of the different beta versions that are circulating, there will not be a direct web page link to download the newest version. Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you are interested in testing this version(only if you are meeting this Sunday please), and I will e-mail back to you with the information needed to download the updated version.

PS - Here’s a look at one of the many possible ideas for a custom program using the Decoder Library.

I just figured that I’d add another voice to this thread for you. Team 69 will be running your final beta in just a few short hours, and I’ll be sure to tell you how it goes. Thanks for everything Nate!
