Dean's List Button Wall 2013

To honor the team’s that have had a Dean’s List Finalist, we will be creating and displaying a sort of ‘wall of buttons’ for the Championships in St Louis next week. Right outside the entrance to the pits there will be a large piece of canvas separated into quarters, one section for each year of finalists (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013). On each section there would be one team button
representing each finalist (for example, 1912 Combustion had a finalist in 2011, so in the 2011 section there would be a 1912 Combustion button). The goal of the wall is to not only honor all of our Finalists, past and present, but also to provide a (hopefully) interesting visual representation of the team’s who have had Finalists.

If your team has had a Finalist throughout any of the years, we would greatly appreciate you contributing to the wall. Its as simple as getting a team button and writing the Finalist’s name and year on the back. Then you could either place the button on the wall yourself or drop it by the 1912 Combustion pit (whose location I would know if I knew divisions…) and we will put it up for you.

If you have a button representing a Finalist and are not attending CMP you are free to mail one to me, although my team is leaving Tuesday night, so it would have to reach me before then. If you are interested in doing that, PM me for the shipping location.

Awesome idea!
I’d be interested in mailing one, but before I go a head and do it, does anyone(probably in the MAR region) going to Champs have a 223 button?

Darn, if i’d known I would’ve grabbed one from you.

I think I might, somewhere? I’ll ask our team.

Another option would be to send a copy of the file for your buttons, I have a 2.5" button maker for our team, and if you message me with all the info needed and a file of the button I will bring it to champs and pin it for you. I’m sure others have different sized button makers also, would soneone be able to do this with other sizes?

It sure will be cool to see these walls, and hopefully we can get enough buttons for all the years!

Sounds great. So you’ve been assigned this spot on the venue layout? If so, I can add it to the list of “side” events.

Does it have to be a button? Team 2502 has never done buttons but we DO have a Dean’s List Finalist! We have trading cards.

Otherwise I will have the kids work on some button artwork to honor our finalist!

The wall should be hanging outside the pits but I’m not sure of the exact location, that’s still being finalized. But if you have a list, it would be great to have this on it!

If you do trading cards that would work! We would simply tape it up there instead of pinning a button on. If you could, find a place on the card to write the finalist’s name and year.

I put together a list for the information people in the booths.

Just make sure you are working with the event managers. You likely won’t be able to just put something up that is not pre-approved.

So, thank you to everyone who has contributed buttons and I encourage teams to keep submitting them (especially the earlier years, I’d like to have 2010 represented a little better!)

The button wall can be found outside the entrance of the pits.

604 will hopefully drop by with two buttons tomorrow, one of them being from 2010 =)

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Dean’s List Button Wall. If you are curious on how it looked on Saturday afternoon, the picture is below:

During the next few weeks, the Button Wall will be reorganized to allow for year’s of growth and then sent to FIRST HQ. I’ll be sure to post a picture of the remodeled one before it is shipped. It will continue to grow and be displayed at Championships in the coming years.

Clearly, we do not have all the Finalist represented. By my reckoning, we have about 31% represented, which isn’t too shabby for the first years effort. If you would like to accelerate the growth by mailing in button(s), I’d be glad to give you the address through PM. Below is my own master list of every Dean’s List finalist. If you happen to have a button from a team(s) I don’t yet have and you would like to mail it in, that would be much appreciated!
