Dear. Dr. Joe,
Our team is following your drill advice. We have performed step #5 successfully. We now have a moving base!
Out next plan is to perform steps #3 and 4. Can you advise on materials and parts from Small Parts that will enable us to complete these steps with minimal machining?
How would you recommend to make the rings in step #3? Any favorite materials? Is there any tubing from SPI that will fit nicely?
Could you call out a part number for a recommended M-6 tap and screws? What length should the screws be? When you install the screws are there heads flush with the hole or do they stick above the housing?
If we choose to use the tube, is there a part from SPI that we can simply order and cut a length of?
Thanks,
Team 340

We make ours out of brass from Small Parts Inc. We have also made them from PVC pipe. I don’t think this is as easy now that the max size of the PVC pipes on the add’l hardware list has been reduced. I would also look into using aluminum tube now that that is essentially unlimited.

I will look up the dimensions of the collars. I will either post them or I will upload a sketch similar to what I did for the output shaft.

The M-6 set screws in the Stock drive product catalog work very well. As I recall, the tap can be purchased from them as well. By the way, it is easier to tap the holes from the ‘inside-out.’ This is because the collar on the output shaft doesn’t quite let the tap get square to the hole if you tap it from the ‘outside-in.’
As to the length, this is not important. They can stick out or go below the surface. It makes little difference.
Good luck.
