I was thinking about automation when it comes to this game, and I believe it would be really useful to be able to automatically move to a known location to place coral on the branches. The hard part about this algorithm is that you need to know what branches are available to be placed on. I had a few ideas but none of them are very satisfactory. The hardest part is that you need to track not only coral but also the algae since you can’t score a coral when it’s touching an algae. I thought about having our co driver track it and put it in a software, but that’s a big responsibility to add for someone who is already doing so much during a match. I was wondering if anyone else had ideas.
Isn’t this distinction made at the end of the match? (just going off the top of my head here).
So as long as you don’t knock coral off when removing (easier said than done perhaps) you may not need to worry about this when placing (as much).
This is the type of thing that shouldn’t be automated, imo. You’ve got a drive coach for a reason! Automating to this degree is bound to create much more error than it’s worth, unless you have 20 people dedicated to solving it.
How about just having a good live camera that you can see the reef branches vividly? as you move closer o the reef, you could have detection when the April tag is detected and in range. Based on what you are seeing, determine which level is open, then press a designated button that is assigned for automating L1,2,3,4.
