Did 2023 have this many swerve support threads?

It seems like there are a lot more than I saw last year, and I wonder what this will mean for the sheer volume of swerve we will see at events this year.

It was definitely a surprise going from regionals in 2023 where tank was still a majority or at least >30% to offseason where swerve was the definite majority (there was a single digit number of tank robots at Beach Blitz), I’m from California so what I’ve seen might be a bit more extreme than other places but there seems to be a trend

Possible bias is that teams which can go to an offseason event are more likely to be more experienced.

Swerve is definitely getting more popular so I kinda want to game with crazy terrain to switch it up.

But that would result in lower revenue for Big Swerve™

Oh yes… after last year many people made the decision to switch to swerve. If SDS and REV were to publish sales figures I bet we’d be shocked by the amount of growth year over year.

The more support threads is also more teams that don’t have experience to set it up correctly meaning many problematic swerves at early events. We are a team that made the switch only because we finally had the funds, it’s been on our list for 4 years now to move over. Instead we kept doing X drive and custom drivetrains to match the maneuvering capability.

This is gonna be a great year to be a veteran team looking to help out people in the pits. Any advice would be gladly taken about preventative maintenance and keeping up with it throughout the competition season. We unfortunately have plastic max swerve wheels so we will be watching them closely and have many spares ready to go.
