Well i’m here in the San Francisco Area, and i’m currently using pacbell internet. The DNS is just horrific. It’s slow, unreliable, and even the DNS at school beats it.
Is there any other free alternative besides your own ISP?

soa.granitecanyon.com, although I’m not sure if it was necessary to have bought from register.com to use it.
www.zoneedit.com will give you 5 years free w/ mail forwarding, but that might be overkill as it’s dynamic DNS.

Right.
soa.granitecanyon.com
Or, you can run it off your own machine using zoneedit.
Those are both DNS servers.
