Do swerve modules need grease?

I have read about greasing swerve modules and our team has just ordered Mk4i’s, firstly is it needed? If so, what product do you reccommend and how would we apply and how regularly should it be applied?

Yes, you should keep your modules greased. In the assembly manual for SDS’s MK4i’s it suggests white lithium grease, many teams also use red tacky grease as an alternative. the choice between the two is personal preference in my experience. As for a recommendation, I trust Lucas Oil.

Yes, it is very important to grease the gears on your modules. The exact grease you use is not very critical. When greasing the gears turn wheel by hand to evenly distribute the grease throughout the gears. Then be sure to wipe of the extra globs of gears so it doesn’t get flung.

We (2910) grease our gears before every event, but we are putting many events worth of driving on our robots between events.

This worked well for my team.

We use Lucas red and tacky. As for applying it these dental syringes work great, and get the grease just where you want it instead of all over. just a little messy to fill the
syringe with a finger. At $7 for 8 we still have our first batch from 2022
