We are concerned that the edges of timing belts that are exposed to notes they are conveying might damage them and are wondering if anyone has experience they can share. Thank you.
I suppose it depends on how you set it up. But in general, it is possible to use the backsides of a timing belt to create a conveyor belt for rings in a way that doesn’t damage them. My team successfully did this in one of our prototypes. Our setup had belts running along the top and bottom of the ring (with “top” and “bottom” being defined as if the ring was resting flat on a table)
Did the belts damage the notes much?
The belts did not damage the notes at all
The main way I could see timing belts doing damage are if a note is stuck in place while the belts are still moving, but that’s the scenario for all types of belts. Another minor chance would be from the flanges on the pulleys if they are in rough shape.
