i was trying to figure out how many people actually like pop, because it seems to me (from the comments) that no one actually likes pop, and first should really pay more attention. personally i do not like pop.
I hate to be all negative, but pop is horrible!!! Rock and metal, etc. all the way! I wish they had played more at the Cdn. regional party, but they played two songs and I thought that was very generous in comparison to my school. Hurray for FIRST! But listen to the majority, listen to the masses, play less pop!!

Pop is short for popular. It’s popular for a reason, because a lot of people (seemingly) like it. I can’t really figure out what they all like about it, but hey…
In the end, it’s best to just stick to what you like and live and let live. All those screaming girls clearly are getting into it and liking it, who am I to knock on their fun?
So no, I don’t like it, but I don’t hate it it. I just won’t listen to it if I can help it. I say we just tell the DJ’s at the regionals what we want to hear, and if enough people want to hear the same kind of stuff, chances are he’ll play it.

N’sync- computer generated music that they sing and dance to…they dont write most of their music or dances… No talent involved, see a monkey could do it

I like pop…I think NSYNC, Britney, Mandy, and everyone else are a very good upfeeling type of music…Its just so fun! I mean, I know no one here likes it…but i think its fun music!
They are all very talented…well maybe no britney…but before you start bashing NSYNC…maybe you should do a little bit more research on what these boys can and can not do…they do write their own music, they can play instruments, they all play a big part in the music industry, whether it be producing or writing music…
Also, I think the only reason they might have gotten Mandy Moore to perform is because its “family friendly.” I mean I know alot of parents and younger siblings attend these events…and that music is just more family orientated to listen to…you have to look at that side…if they brought a huge rock band or what not, how family friendly do you think that will be to the parents and their like 9 year old daughter or whatever…i know on my team one of the engineers broght his 5 year old daughter…I’m sure he would of rathered her listen to mandy moore, than…some rock group…yes ska and punk could be family friendly…but i think they are going to keep using pop…cause a majority of people like it…

I think this poll’s point is to dispell the idea that a majority of people *In Robotics *like pop. And, at the moment, its doing a good job of that. Plus, this isnt even asking if you like pop music more than other types of music. Somebody could like pop but could like some other genres more.

I think it is reasonably clear that ‘pop’ isn’t popular amongst the robotics crowd.
But as people have said, they do need something that is family friendly…BUT, I would argue that any number of rock, punk, ska, etc. bands are perfectly family friendly.
How about Sum 41 for next year?

What about Creed, Sugarcult, Jimmy Eat World, Dave Matthews Band, Less than Jake, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, ect? They can all be family friendly when they need to be plus i bet you’d have about 80% of the crowd stay for their concerts instead of like 20% for a pop act. I know a lot of people who let thier children listen to creed and don’t mind it, or POD. Their very uplifting bands. Most ska is family friendly if they just don’t curse when thier talking about their music.

yes, look at any of thier tickets and they ALL say “All Ages Welcome”, so they’s be okay to have there…(ltj preferably.hehehe)…later guys…
Well, here’s the problem:
¤ Pop music applies to masses
¤ Remember all that talk about how FIRST members are one in a million, one in thirty, etc? FIRST members are not part of the masses
Now, this gives us a tough choice.
a. Playing music that apeals to the masses gives us more apeal to the masses - increasing the popularity of FIRST. This is good, BUT
b. Increasing the popularity of FIRST means becoming more pop ourselves, means loosing our uniqueness. Lets face it, how much gracious professionalism is in the outside world? Sure, bringing some of them to us is going to spread gracious professionalism to them, but you’re forgetting that the pull is both ways - while we bring gracious professionalism to them, they bring what is ‘pop’ to us (not just talking about music here).
My opinion is that FIRST is unique. FIRST wants two goals: to maintain that uniqueness and spread it to every school in the nation (and to be politically correct, other nations as well 
). However, these two goals contradict themselves. What is so unique about a high-school event that occurs in every high-school?
Basically, increasing the level of FIRST indefinately will result in an ultimate loss of quality, uniqeness, and yes, gracious professionalism. What they have to decide is how big does FIRST really want to get? Sure, the size of the Roman Empire brought prosperity, riches, and who knows what else. But also keep in mind that the Roman Empire fell because it tried to become bigger than it should have.
