There has been alot of negative feedback to the new FIRST logo.
If you havent seen it or want to see discussion on it, look here
But I would like to know what everyone thinks about it.

I read the Q&A … but… but… still.
Why oh why did they change it?! I … really like the original better. Oh, sadness.
Maybe I’ll get used to this, though… in time.
Ok, I’ll be the one to stand up and take the punishment. I like it. I think the old one looked like a first draft of something made from Microsoft Paint. Basically an undeveloped idea.
The new one seems like they modernized it. The next logical progression. It’s got a clean look to it. I didn’t like the line art, it drew your eye to the lines, and then your thinking of the 3 shapes. As opposed to the Image that’s presented now in it’s entirety. Simply being a catchy image. Probably not a good explanation, but that’s how my brain sees it.
And this new one was made with Word Art
I don’t really like it. I think the older one was more memorable and eye-catching. I imagine the old one is better for banners and things like that.
Oh… and man those are some harsh choices! I don’t think I’ll ever cut my fingers off before I use it, but I still don’t like it
I prefer the old text over the new italicized text. But the graphic part certainly is improved.
I must say that I really don’t like it.
I think I could deal with it if there wasn’t so much perspective on it.
The triangle looks lopsided and the square looks too small and crooked…too much like a diamond.
However, its not so much the actual way it looks that I don’t like, but the change of the symbol itself. To me, the old FIRST logo has been a symbol that represents a huge part of my life… something thats changed my life completely.
The old FIRST symbol means so much to me that it will be hard to see the new one as meaning the same thing…although I know it does, it will be hard to get used to.
I don’t know about others, but whenever I see the FIRST logo that I am so used to, I think of all of the wonderful things it’s associated with. I hope I can get used to it and come to like it.
Maybe change is good, but I don’t like this one. The old logo was balanced well horizontally. This logo seems to teeter off to one side. The triangle’s dominence does not do very well for the logo, the old equal weight between all shapes seemed to work better.

I have to go with no. The old one just had a feeling of “stenght, pride, and power”. This new one sems childish, it doesn’t seem as formal, or as universal or friendly for documentation.
The new one seems kinda fruity. i dunno. the old one had more… depth in it.
but either way we still <3 FIRST
alright, personally what i think is, old FIRST logo was pretty cool. it’s maybe because all of us got used to looking at it so much. and now at this point when i first saw the new logo i dont like it compared to the old one just because i am used to the old one. we all will eventually get used to it after a while…
Def dont like the new one looks like a kid went into paint and made it, I like the old one it looked professional and sleek
The circle has become a U, and the text looks funny, but time will tell.

It seems to me that veteran FIRST’ers hate it, and new FIRST’ers dont mind it.
The emotional attachment is not as profound i guess.
I hate it. I want the old one back. </new logo>
Its alright, but I think it will catch on eventually.
The new logo doesn’t seem to have much appeal to me… When I glance at it, it looks like a mess of colors…
There is, however, is the fact that the veterans associate the old logo with the memories that they had over the years of being part of FIRST. Whenever they see the “old” logo, they remember the accomplishments they have done, the rewards recieved, the alliances they made, the recognition they recieved, etc…
The “new” logo seems to dismiss the past, and make us feel as though we are stepping into a new territory, when otherwise, it is the same organization behind the new look. It will definitely take some time to get used to the new logo, maybe a season or two will do it, then it will be the good ol’ lovable logo that it was always intended to be.
But for now, I’m sticking with old school until I feel the new logo has its impact on me.
Here’s a problem my team might have with this new logo. We just painted out trailer last year, so it has the old logo. I seriously doubt we will repaint the logo on there…so I guess you could call us old school. But, I don’t like the new logo at all! I didn’t really see a need for the new one…just my views on it…

i’m with swampdude, i like the new logo. i think the font looks better, and the pictorial part is simpler. personally i never much liked the original FIRST logo either. when i first saw it, i wasn’t sure what to make of it…i’d much prefer something more like the MLB or NBA logos, which at least give you some sort of idea what they’re representing. i see someone walking through the mall with a FIRST logo on the back of their shirt, and i’m gonna think “ok, that fella must like shapes” instead of “that guy is part of a competitive robotics league”.
To me the hardest part of this change, is the fact that we have recieved permission to modify the old logo, paid set up fees for getting it screenprinted and embroidered, and now we can no longer use it. The other part is that when designing a website, you now have to form the website around the new logo, because you can’t modify the background, and just sticking it on a website as is, in place of the old just wouldn’t look right if you dont really have any white or black spaces on your site, as in with our website http://www.rage173.org where we have no white or black spaces, we will now have to redesign the site to make the FIRST logo look correct, and we will have to change around the font, because they also what certain fonts used with the new logo.
While I understand they want to re-brand and the reasons behind it, it just seems like it has become a larger hassle then they may have thought.
I would agree to that…except for one thing. What would that robot look like? I mean, FIRST teams crank out some interesting robots!
i’m not sure…maybe something similar to what team Hammond uses on their website, or a team 75ish arm and claw. or maybe it doesn’t even have to be a complete robot, instead, some inter meshing gears, for example.
