Do you think a jaguar will run for a few days constant?

I am building a filament de-reeler for my 3d printer because my extruder cant pull the push plastic 10kg spool. so I figured I would use some stuff that I have laying around. I was gonna use a black jaguar, and a neverest FTC motor. The thing is, it will probably be running for 4 days straight, they wont be drawing much current, but I have doubts in my mind that they can take that… What do you guys think?

I think it should work okay as long as the current is low. Keep the Jag in a well ventilated area so it doesn’t overheat – that (and water) is the main reason speed controllers fail. Specifically, don’t block its fan or give it a good way to clog the fan’s vent holes.

It should be fine a Neverest motor is only 14watts so just a bit over 1 amp current draw. I would suggest adding another fan, to cool it as the Jaguar fan is dynamic.

Have you considered that maybe it is your spool holder which is causing the problem, maybe a lower friction one could reduce your problem.

Agreed that it may be the spool holder. Perhaps OP has some spare bearings that he could use and put the spool onto?

14 watts is the maximum output (mechanical) power of the motor, not the input (electrical power). The electrical power needed to generate this is actually 69 watts, or 5.75 amps (half of the stall current) at 12V.

For continuous applications like the OP’s, I’d recommend running at peak efficiency, which means drawing ~1/5 of stall current or ~2.3 A. Of course, in the worst case the motor will somehow jam and stall, in which case it will draw the full stall current of 11.5 A, which is still well within limits of the Jag, but the motor may not be so happy. A fuse/breaker or smart current limiting using the Jag’s current readout can save your motor in this case.

Wow! Thanks for the quick responses! I welded together a stand for the spool with ball bearings for it too roll on, it took the extruder all of about 5 minutes to ball up the hob. Thanks for all the help, I will make sure to keep everything well cooled.

Edit: This is probably happening because I run everything except the perimeter moves at 300mm/s
