Well do you want to volunteer for FIRST at a regional or even the championship, well here is your chance to do so. The new VIMS (volunteer information and matching system) is currently up and running Here. I would suggest anyone who wants to do anything from crowd control to field reset to real time scoring register for an account and sign themselves up at an event. Currently there are 29 regional with one field, 1 regional with two fields and then the championship event where you can help out. With the ever growing rate of FIRST events, volunteers are the only way for FIRST’s growth to continually expand. So if your going to be at an event to spectate or you will have free time at an event with your team, volunteer and help out, maybe you’ll even find a new door that will be opened for your future.
Quick question. Say I wanted to volunteer for just thursday as field reset? is that possible? I also saw something about a volunteer meeting on the wednesday night. I could not make that. Will that be a problem?
A lot depends on the regional and their needs. I know some regionals require people to be there all 3 days where as others are looking for people at the events. Sign up and see what response you get. You can chose day(s) and jobs. There is also a comment area where you could put concerns etc.
Unfortunately, I would have to skip school in order to volunteer at UTC on Thursday or Friday, but I could help on Friday and Saturday night most definitely. Right now it definitely is still up in the air as to which regional our team is going to, because the one we signed up for (Philadelphia), is the same week as standardized testing :ahh: . I guess I’ll go to my meeting tonight and get updated on the regional situation… I most definitely would want to volunteer, though.
Hahahaha wow Billfred.
Pending if my team qualifies for Championships, I plan on volunteering in Atlanta, and if more staff are needed, Southern California.
I’m all over the Canadian regionals. I’d like to referee there – Head if possible, but I know at least two people who are probably ahead in line for the Toronto one, and some other likely candidates for Waterloo – and obviously judge websites before the actual regional happens. After all, it’d be nice to shell out almost as many website awards as I got last year ;). Anyway, as is customary with robotics, I am willing to skip any and all school to be there.
