So, who’s seen the commercial for the new Dodge Dart?
http://blog.iamjvn.com/2012/07/how-to.html
Pretty exceptional marketing, and a neat take on the engineering process!
Count me in! One of the coolest car commercials I have seen.
And this is coming from a hard-core GM guy.
“Never too much power”
I love it. My wife hates it. Go figure.
Awesome Commercial! when I saw it I kept watching it over and over again… its perfect
Change ‘car’ to ‘robot’, ‘coffee’ to ‘mountain dew’ and Tom Brady to will.I.am, and you have next year’s kickoff intro.
Love and hate are passionate emotions. Generally a good sign. Note hate and hate is not…
Can’t wait to take one for a spin.
I don’t watch commercials on tv. I watched this one for you. Interesting.
But it’s too bad they picked that name for this car, the real Dart has quite a different heritage.
(I’ve been keeping my wife’s 70 Dart Swinger running for the past 31 years)
A work buddy has a '63 Dart that he has souped up quite a bit (it’s what folks do here in SE MI!). “Quite a different heritage” is putting it mildly! It was his first car, so he overlooks the “butt ugly” comments…
I love the part with the reliant robin!
That is just awesome.
Anyone up for making one about robots?
I hope Dodge spent more than 6 weeks on this new Dart.
I laughed at this so hard when I saw it for the first time (during the MLB ASG), then watched it again during many of the next commercial breaks, and still laughed.
Great job.
More coffee, sleep… That’s enough sleep.
I totally would if I could lol!
It’s on my project list now…
My family hasn’t bought something from Chrysler that hasn’t been a lemon, but the whole Fiat ownership has brought in really good ideas and good ways to market their cars.
Awesome on so many levels.

Start with a simple idea (spin wrench in hands)
Think (team gathered around)
Think more (students at a white board)
Drink Dew (slam a bottle of mountain dew on a table)
Stop thinking, start doing (students and mentor working on Inventor)
Hatch a design (build something in cardboard)
Kill the design (set on fire, students running in the background, mentor takes it out with a fire extinguisher)
More Dew (slam a 2-litter bottle of mountain dew on a table with some cups)
Design something totally original (old footage of 71’s Zone Zeal robot hoarding the goals)
Ok, not that original, this original (zoom back that footage, new footage of 148’s Tumbleweed)
Now it’s time to make something (team working on a chassis)
Do it again (new chassis)
And again (new chassis)
That’s good (perfect chassis)
Kick out the trouble makers (turn away from a huge group of kids fooling around)
Call in the Mentors (A bunch of old guys and women ready to work look determined)
Call in the Parents (A few mothers show plates of cookies with a team theme to them)
Call in the Nerds (A student looking over some math problems)
Not those nerds (Bunch of Warcraft and card game playing kids)
Those nerds (Long shot of students on a team with tools in hand ready to work)
Blow off lunch (Pizza getting cold)
Blow off sawdust (student finished cutting something blows some sawdust off the band saw)
Finish your homework (students around with an important local political figure shaking hands, showing off robot.)
Sleep (Student uses an Uber Tube as a pillow)
That’s enough sleep (student gets up)
More Dew (slam some 6-packs of mountain dew on the table)
Build a prototype (image of a CAD drawing spins around)
Build it (robot ready to go)
Drive it (Robot runs)
Break it (falls over)
Start over (student kicks fallen over robot)
Build another prototype (better image of a CAD drawing)
Build it (robot ready to go)
Drive it (Robot runs)
Love it (robot scores)
Thats good (team cheers)
Bring in the Sponsors (business men and women come in)
Why? Because they share experience (talking with students)
And sharing experience leads to this (student has an interview with one of them, and the interviewer shakes the student’s hand and says “you’re hired”)
Ok, one week left (team exhausted)
More Dew (a bunch of 24 packs on the table, and a student shakes an empty box)
Give it a kick (robot drives around)
More CIM Motors (attach a CIM motor)
More CIM Motors (attach another CIM motor)
Never too many CIM Motors (Robot speeds around a set up of cones)
Give it 40 psi (Student shows a typical cylinder)
No, give it 80 (mentor shows a cylinder three times the size)
Give it the ability to control with a wiimote and kinect (human player waving around in front of a kinect like crazy)
Give it a Robot Cart (a small push robot cart)
No, Bigger (a larger robot cart)
More lights (the cart not flashes with LED lights)
Good
Give it an autonomous mode that sees the targets. (have the robot running autonomously.)
Uh Oh, the code team (a group of students with their laptops look up, disgusted)
You can’t do that (Code student is dismissive)
Give them more Dew (Code Team hard at work with lots of mountain dew at their disposal)
Take it to the Scrimmage (robots playing in a scrimmage)
Tweak
Tweak
Tweak
Decals (Attach some sponsor logos on)
Take it to the Regionals (shot of a regonal)
Maintain 1st seed (drive team cheers after a win)
Select the 3rd seed (team captains shake hands)
Win some awards (team high-fives the judges)
Apply to high ranking colleges (student sends some mail)
Accepted (holding acceptance letter high in the air)
Study (hitting the books)
4.0 (report card)
Graduate (throwing hats in the air)
Get a Job (that handshake with the interviewer comes back)
You are the future. *(student surrounded by paparazzi) *
I am?
Yes, you are. (pan back out)
Making the world a better place. It’s that easy. (images of the team, students working, general inspiration stuff)
