Double Engineering Inspiration

Just curious how many and how often do teams win two EIs or and EI and Chairmans?
Becuase if you win a second award then it means you won it with your pits presentation and reputation of your team over any other Chairmans submitters.

You can only win Chairmans at one regional a year, but you can get EI as many times as you deserve it.
When you win an award you are winning it because of how your whole team presented it to the judges in the pits and the fields. If a team wins an award twice in one season then it means they are doing something very well.

Because both the Regional Chairmans Award and the Engineering Inspiration Award are qualifying awards (make your team eligible for Championships), I know a lot of teams that if they have won one of the awards and are going to a second regional, will ask the judges not to consider them at the second regional. The exception would be if you were making your Chairman’s presentation at the second regional but won the EI at the first regional.

-Team 71 in 2006 won Chairman’s(At MO) and EI (at IL)
-Team 126 in 2006 won Chairman’s (At NH) and EI (at CT)
-Team 842, the 2008 National Chairman’s Award winners Won CA (at AZ) and EI (at NV) in 2007.
-Team 612 won Chairman’s in 2006 (at MD) and EI (at VA)

That’s just recently. So yeah to answer your question it happens fairly often. Three times in 2006 alone.

Our team (25) won the EI at both NJ and Annapolis. Frankly I don’t know why we did in both cases but we were thankful for the recognition.
We later won the CA in NJ and have since dedicated our CA efforts to a different direction rather than working to win that award for ourselves.

2008 CA (Hawaii regional), 2008 EI (Championships)
I dont find it odd at all to win a CA, EI combination.
If the CA award represents an all around program, then wouldn’t that coincide to a great extent what the EI is all about?
Personally, I think the CA, EI and Entrepreneurship all go hand in hand.
As stated by Kyle, a great deal of it is based on how the student’s present. Our two best presenter groups were in 2003 and 2008, the years we had won the CA. Coincidence? I dont believe so.
I bet that 2009 video requirement will be the wild card this year as it will validate presentations.
Wayne,…yes, our team knows best about the new direction of yours.
