Dr Joe's Gif of the Week Contest 2018: Week 4 Submissions

The purpose of this thread is JUST to collect official submissions for Week 4 of Dr Joe’s Gif of the Week Contest 2018

After consideration, I think we can open up comments as well as submissions. Keep things pretty much on topic (let’s avoid strategy and rules discussions for example) but feel free to discuss GIFs in the this thread.

Reminder of the rules/details:

  1. Clip has to be an actual GIF
that you include in a response to THIS submission thread via that “Insert Image” icon.
Find a public place online to host the gif file and then link to it when you use the “Insert Image” icon. You should find a sort of safe place to upload them because if nobody can see your gif because their school or work blocks the host site, you are not going to win. FWIW, I really want the GIF to play as soon as you load your message. Don’t make folks follow links if you want to win the $10.

  2. Clip must include a shot of a robot
competing in an OFFICIAL match played the week named in the thread.
You can have crowd shots, reactions, split screens, grinders, SpaceX Boosters, etc. but you MUST have at least a full second of an FRC robot in the Gif some how some way.

  3. You have to IDENTIFY the robot(s) and the match played in the submission thread.

Not kidding. IN YOUR SUBMISSION, ID THE ROBOT(S) AND THE MATCH PLAYED
I prefer the TBA match naming convention if you want to impress the judge.

  1. First come, first served. If clips of the same event are submitted, the earlier submitted gif is the winner.

This can get a little tricky. Look to copyright law for guidance. If your gif is “transformative” (say you use the same clip but the REASON it is a better gif is that you added something creative or juxtaposed other items or in some way added a transformative element then MAYBE the judge will allow a reuse of that clip). Just like in the US legal system, it is going to be a roll of the dice. If you want to risk it, go for it. Eyes wide open. Read next rule.

  1. Two things that will make it easier for me to make the voting thread.
  • Include a proposed title

for the gif for me to use in the voting thread

  • Only one gif per post
(if you want to submit multiple gifs, make multiple message replies)
  1. I am the official arbitrator of disputes and rules interpretations.

Start your own dang contest if you are really that unhappy.
Really. Life is too short for this kind of nonsense.

Let’s have some fun.

Also, go vote for your favorite Week 3 Gif here

Cheers,
Dr. Joe J.

Do practice matches count? (I mean, the team is paying for it, so it is “official” in some sense)

1323 and 5817 show that co-opertition isn’t dead.

This is one of the most amazing things I have seen this year - super impressive that the software was able to react like this. We showed this clip to our programmers (this was in the last thread, but I guess officially happened in week 4) and they were all pretty inspired by it.

During 2018wimi_qm42 FRC1675 learned a new way to manipulate cubes (left side of screen)

I posted that last week and it was not allowed :frowning: . Cool moment though.

Clip must include a shot of a robot competing in an OFFICIAL match played the week named in the thread.

I put that rule in there because a lot of shenanigans happen on practice fields, in practice matches, in the pits, at pep rallies, in the parking lots during load in, …

I just didn’t want to deal with that hot mess.

But, I will say I am sad that this gif got caught up in my net because it is beautiful, really gorgeous.

Ah well… Sorry.

AND…

We’re moving on…

Dr. Joe J.

I fully understand; it’s your contest

For those of you who have successfully submitted gifs. What tool did you use to make them? I’ve tried a few websites and haven’t been able to get anything that successfully posts.

Thanks for posting this, we honestly didn’t even know this happened until it was posted here

Some backstory: We were purposefully running the wrong side auto for testing purposes, and as such this would never have happened in an official match. While I would love to see this GIF win the contest for this week, I understand why practice matches aren’t included for that reason.

Did this not tip the Switch in red’s favor? Was one cube not enough to trigger scoring or was there another cube on the other side?

Balancing Act

After getting stuck under the scale (red side), 706 knocks 930 free. In doing so, the robot stays perfectly balanced on end for several seconds before gravity eventually wins out (the reaction from the ref in the top left sums it up well)

I used imgur - I didn’t have an account but it lets you authenticate with google. Once I made an account that is associated with my google account, it has a video to gif tool.

Good luck. You can PM me if you have more questions.

EDIT: gif didn’t go through for me either first time.
