Dream Job

Hello everyone  brave:D enough to post on this thread. I would like to know two things about you.

  1. Where your team hails from.(Also include team #)
  2. What your dream/goal for life is, and how FIRST helps you achieve it.

Iā€™ll start,
My team is 1652 and we hail from Pleasant Prairie wisconsin.

My dream in life is to build and design a fully functional humanoid robot. But not just any bot, I want to make one that can last a week without a recharge, can operate in extream temperatures, and is able to think for itself.(with absolutely no help from a human operator.)
FIRST is helping me reach my dream by allowing me to build robots at a very early age. I personaly am having a blast programming our teamā€™s robot:yikes:

:ahh: Well that it for me, now someone elses turn:ahh:

Iā€™m from Fredericksburg, VA from team 2021. Iā€™m not quite sure where I want to go but FIRST has given me insight into embedded systems and engineering. I am just a junior though. Maybe next year Ill know more, maybe not until I get into college.

Also, see this thread. http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49946&highlight=dream+job

Iā€™m from team 191 the X-Cats in Rochester, NY.
My dream used to be to work for Disney or Pixar but now Iā€™d rather develope my own animated interent comic website.

Pleasant prairie,WI 1652 and i want 2 be an engineer. First helps me by getting me practice for l8er in life

Team Challenger, #2047 from Chicago

Robotics full time while being a freelance artist on the sideā€¦
OR
Working with animatronic cartoon characters or prosthetics.

I canā€™t believe how much being on this team has helped me, not only by being a good reference for college applications but for also learning some basic and advanced factors of mechanical engineering.

Raider Robotics, team 25, North Brunswick NJ.
My dream is to become General Manager of a Professional Sports team or to be a driver in the Nextel Cup. FIRST has helped me develop my mind to look outside the box at strategies and things of that nature. It has also taught me leadership skills, as well as many other necessary skills.

Im in Florida team 1875, i want to have my own computer company and do whatever i feel like when i feel like it. FIRST is getten me through college(i hope) and it has helped me sharpen my skills.

My team is from little country town Liberal, Kansas team #1666

First robotics helps me to open up to new ideas and make friends with alot of people I would never think to come in contact with. My dream career field would be in the photography fieldā€¦working with people is a good skill to have. This whole experience for me has been fullfilling and Im learning so much from everyone on my team.:stuck_out_tongue:

Team Kika Mana (TKM.368) from Hawaii

Dream job: work for Apple (hardware engineer, graphic artist, or web designer). FIRST has taught me how to work with others in small groups.

2nd Dream job: work for FIRST.

My dream is to one day work at Pixar or be a part of and animation crew in a big shot company. FIRST helped me realize I have a knack for animation. Always have but never knew. It also taught me that If you work hard at something, youā€™ll get what you want. I wanted a reigional award for animation competition. Over the summer of my junior year I taught myself 3ds max. It was the most frusturating thing i could have ever done. But in the end, I got what I wanted, but realized something else that was even more important.

Iā€™m from team 648 and we are from the Quad Cities.
My dream job is to work with computer aided drafting and FIRST has helped b/c we use drafting to help make a 3d model of the robot.
If not that, I would like to be a photographer and FIRST has helped that byā€¦ I was/have been my teamā€™s photographer and its load of fun

Five build-seasons ago, I joined Beach Cities Robotics, team 294, knowing nothing about FIRST nor anything like it.

Each year I learned more than I ever had in school about the practical applications of not only science and technology but cooperation, leadership, and schedule.

My dream job has always been to make, create, invent, and discover rather than duplicate, maintain, or destroy. I especially did not want to do any pedestrian job outside of these categories. I wanted to be an ā€œinventorā€ in kindergarten. ā€œMad scientistā€ was my first grade costume. For years after that, I wanted to be an electrical engineer. FIRST did not change my direction towards, but it indisputably strengthened it. Without FIRST, I would be just another sideline spectator of technology, without anything to support my transition into the real application of knowledge.

I was able to expound on many priceless experiences, most of which directly resulted from FIRST, on my college admissions essays. Apparently colleges understand the value of these, as I have so far been admitted to five University of California schools of engineering. I fully credit FIRST for this feat which, based GPA and other more common indicators, would never be possible.

This summer I will be putting my experience from robotics to use at one of the most respected engineering firms in the country. The Aerospace Corporation approached me with an offer for a internship, a program is normally reserved for upper college and graduate students. Although I will not be having the same kind of fun as in robotics, it excites me that I will have to opportunity to contribute to some really amazing and cutting-edge projects there.

I am not even out of high school, and my foot is already in the door of my dream job. And FIRST got me there.

My dream job would be to work for NASA and help the next generation of robots reach the moon or Mars. (LINK). I think it would be awesome because there are FIRST teams at almost every NASA branch that has to do with robotics. After observing a meeting, I realized that building robots is not all fun and games and that much more thought goes into it compared to the FIRST Robotics Competition, especially if you want your robot to go somewhere and not just be a prototype.

Dreams come and go, but once life throws a football you have to think fast.

Pavan.

Iā€™m from Lower Merion, PA (right outside of Philadelphia), alum of Team 1712.
My goal in life (which Iā€™m pretty close to) is to work for Cirque Du Soleil and some major NY theatrical shows as a Technical Director. Sadly though, I cant really say that FIRST has helped me with any of these. I know that my expertise in construction/materials and troubleshooting has helped my team, but I havenā€™t really learnt anything that could be applied to my trade.

Im from Ann Arbor, MI, Alum of 1015

My goal in life is to have a job that I have fun doing. I would like to work in a small team of people who contract out work for designing mobile robots for many various tasks. Military, space, or consumer - as long as they are new jobs, and not doing something that has been done before (I dont want to make the same thing over and over). I specificaly want it to be a small interactive group that i really enjoy doing work withā€¦

I will find/make that job some dayā€¦

A job that i know is out there: working for NASA or the military designing robots.

Iā€™m from The TechnoKats, 45

My dream job is to be a Technology Education teacher at a school with a FIRST team. Then I would like to move up in the system to become the superintendent and make it so all the schools would have some sort of FIRST in them.

My Team is from Paterson. NJ team 1881. And like to me a mechanical engineer for a cutting edge engineering company like Boeing, iRobot, Lockheed Martin, the CIA(lol). First has giving me practice on make something from paper to aluminum.

Iā€™m from Greensboro,NC by way of upstate NYā€¦ my team is me.myself,and I :stuck_out_tongue:
Iā€™m working with some guys on starting a after school robotics program for kids that have parent(s) in prison. Either with FIRST, BEST, BallBot, or some other group. Something to get the kids interested in more than just sitting in front of the TV playing vid games and helping them stay in school. These kids need something more to choose from that joining the local street gang or running dope for the local dealer.

My dream jobā€¦ well Iā€™ve actually had a couple dream jobs. Trouble is after getting them they turned out to be more of a nightmare than dream!
My fav was as a NC DOT QMS QC / NDTā€¦ aka the guy that tested new roads using a nuclear density gauge!
Problem was the company I worked for was sold and I refused to work for the new owners.

My next dream jobā€¦ working for a small electronics company building components or working at a small machine shop making parts with a CNC.

Of course getting paid for building virtual locos and rolling stock for train simulators (MSTS or a VR) would be most excellent!

I am from Team THRUST 1501 from Huntington, IN.

I have to go with Koko Ed on this one. I too would love to either work for Disney or Jim Hensonā€™s Creature Shop.

Or if I wasnā€™t married yet. I would love to be the light designer for Trans Siberian Orchestra and travel with them to different shows for about one yearā€¦

Or I would love to be on MythBusters with Grant. Gosh I love that show!

Craig Hickman from 114, in Los Altos California.

My first goal in life is to be a mechanical engineer, and to make new inventions.

My slightly more far fetched goal is to become a weapons engineer (not something you see oftenā€¦).

At the same time, Iā€™d like to make some severe political changes in the US government systemā€¦
