Drive Base Opt Out Was Not Advised for 2024

I remember a blog post from First before the game reveal that suggested teams not opt out of the drive base for 2024 implying that the drive base was going to be different. We were planning on opting out since we have drive bases that we could reuse. Unless I am missing something, the drive base has not changed significantly for 2024. Any idea why it was suggested that teams not opt out?

I assume FIRST didn’t recommend opting-out because the KitBot would be built on the drive base which would be useful for many.

This base robot will be called the KitBot. The KitBot is designed to be able to play some aspects of CRESCENDO, but not all. It’s also been designed so teams can build the KitBot and then further iterate on it to add additional features if they choose.

It was indeed the KitBot that the blog was referencing for the opt out, which is a major change from previous years. If you have missed it, you can learn more about this years KitBot design here.

It looks like we could have opted out of the drive base and still built the kitbot using the parts in the black tote (plus the parts on the shopping list that came out before kickoff). In fact, the drive base did not change this year and I read the blog to imply that it had.
