Drive Team Question

How many people are we allowed for each position? I was just curious because our team was planning on having 3 for the human player, would that be an issue?

At least 1 person has to drive the robot.
Another person is a Coach, and can’t touch anything.
You can do as you please with the remaining 3 people

I heard that there was a limit of 2 people to switch out for the player on the feild.

We are set with the Coach, 2 Drivers, and the player that collects balls. It is just 3 of was wanted to rotate on the feild

You are completely right, but it got me thinking…

Can you imagine how funny it would be to watch 4 people drive a robot with a coach behind them… that sounds like a recipe for disaster…

It could happen

1 person for a shooter,
1 person to drive it
1 person to angle the shooter
1 person for gears or rope

But is there a limit on alternates?

Now what would be best is if all 4 people had to cooperate and use only 1 x-box controller…

That would be funny.

Just remember no more than 2 people on an airship per alliance.

So there will be 15 people per alliance.

3 will be coaches
At least 3 will drive (assuming all robots are working)
No more than 2 pilots in an airship

So technically, you have 9 people to designate anywhere besides the airship, but in most matches, 2 will be in the airship. So in reality, you’ll have 7 people per alliance to put somewhere that isn’t the airship. Keep in mind most teams have 2 drivers.

My best guess is there will normally be 3 coaches, 6 drivers, 2 in the airship, 2 human player by the overflow load in, and 2 human players by the normal load in zone per alliance.

No.

You can have 5 people for one match, and a different set of 5 people for another match. Whoever has the buttons can go on the field.

That helps a bit, someone told me that we could only have 2 people that can rotate in

We wanted a 3 person rotation so we could each not have to do it as many matches.

Is there anything that states we cant?

I forgot to read that THANK YOU SO MUCH

no

Better idea: Each person controls a wheel of a 4 wheeled bot.

Even better:

Each driver controls a MECANUM wheel

oh that would be great

Technically you could have 4 human players and no drivers, leaving the whole robot to run autonomously.

Things that would make programmers hate their life^

Are you trying to have rotations to allow more people to be associated to the drive team? I believe even switching between human players/ pilots is something you are unlikely to see this year from the majority of teams. If a student is your pilot then they are your pilot. This is mostly because by minimizing the number of people driving/operating gear lifts you also maximize practice time.

FTFY

There’s an awful lot of “I think”, “I heard”, etc in this thread. (Plus a lot of good-natured jokes, but that’s OK)

Maybe we should go back to the source in the Manual:

4.5 DRIVE TEAM
A DRIVE TEAM is a set of up to five (5) people from the same FIRST Robotics Competition Team responsible for Team performance during a MATCH. There are four (4) specific roles on a DRIVE TEAM which ALLIANCES can use to assist ROBOTS with race preparation.
Table 4-3: DRIVE TEAM roles
//snip - the table doesn’t reproduce well - you’ll have to look it up yourself //
There may be up to two (2) PILOTS per ALLIANCE per MATCH. During Qualification MATCHES, PILOTS may come from the DRIVE TEAMS assigned to Stations 1 and 2. A Team is permitted to cede their PILOT position to a PILOT from the DRIVE TEAM assigned to Station 3. During Playoff MATCHES, the ALLIANCE CAPTAIN has the authority on which two separate teams provide the ALLIANCE’S PILOTS.
