Driver Camera Recommendations

Hey everybody! We are looking for USB camera recommendations for a driver. Something with low latency would be amazing. Our Logitech cameras have not given us much success in the past, and any other recommendations would be great. Thanks!

4611 and 27 have used these ELP cameras in the past. They are connected directly to a limelight. They sell normal and fisheye models.

453 has used these as well starting in 2019 with the sandstorm. Whenever we want a USB camera this has been the cheapest and easiest choice. You can 3D print a nice case for it and attach it just about anywhere.

Microsoft Lifecams are okay as an alternative because they were easy to find (possibly free with FIRST choice) but they are a pain to mount and keep still. The head pivots and will mess you up when you least expect it.

Really any solid body USB camera with 720p (you can take the quality and fps down after the fact) and a good FOV and easy way of mounting are the criteria that matter most to me.

If you don’t want a fisheye lens, we’ve been using Logitech C270’s for a few years now, and its performed as we wanted it to.

Any recommendations on where to buy replacement cables for it?

I haven’t bought replacement cables for it, but I believe its a JST-PHR-4 to USB cable that you want.
Quick search brought up this:

DIY! It’s a male USB Type-A to a 4-pin terminal header. We all have random USB cables lying around, but make sure it’s a data cable and not just a USB that provides power.

Cut the non-Type-A off of any USB cable, then cut back the outer cable shielding to expose the VCC (5v)[red], GND[black], Data+[green], and Data-[white] wires. Strip 1/4" from each wire and crimp a ferrule on the end.

Hey Aadit, we have access to a bunch of these cameras in the old frc stuff at bhs

A heads-up to anyone using this. The Data+ and Data- lines are swapped compared to the camera output pins. You will need to swap the data pins in the JST connector to make it work.
