Hey CD,
Just wondering what drivetrain your team is planning on using this season and why.
West coast drivetrain with 8x 6" wheels to make clearing the power cord protector and driving up the platform bevel easier (not a flat field!).
Almost certainly: KoP chassis, 6" wheels, long configuration, 27.5" wide, with frame opening in front, 4 CIMs. Currently 8.45:1 gearing. This should get us where we need to go and supports all three of the notional designs we’re prototyping.
We made the choice to go with 5" wheels because we are using EVO shifters this year. 4" wheels dont allow us to clear the wire bump with the EVO’s, but have good speeds with the EVOs, but 6" wheels are fairly tall, and dont have great speeds with the EVO ratios. 5" allows us to get the speeds we wanted and the clearance we required.
Currently my team is planning using 6 - 6" VEXPro traction wheels I believe in a WCD format. We are debating the idea of using 8 wheels but not entirely sure if it’s worth the extra weight. We know 4" wheels will have issues with ground clearances so for a safety factor, we just went up to 6" wheels. We are trying to avoid getting stuck on the cable protector and the platform.
We plan on using 4+2 on the kitbot drive train to maintain some maneuverability while having the ability to try defense if it ends up being as valuable as I would think it is.
