DriveTrain Single Speed Shifter

Of all the speed shifting I’ve seen, it requires something mechanical to reduce/increase the speed. I have never seen any talks about programming motors to do that. Is this even possible?

Let’s say you’re going forwards. You hit the DPad Down button to get the motor to reduce the max speed. You hit the DPad Up button to get the motor to go back to the “max” speed. There is no shifting/mechanical/gears involved. Just code telling the motor what “max” speed to perform at.

3452 has done that for multiple years. It allows our drivers to line up easier, and we had it automatically adjust speeds based off elevator height. @maccopacco could explain it more if you wanted specific lines of code.

The advantage of a shifting gearbox is more about the torque almost, giving you enough torque for low end pushing, and then shifting back to a fast speed for driving, or giving you good acceleration on the low end, and a higher top speed on the top end. Reducing the speed in code won’t give you better acceleration or torque.
