Wondering if anyone who has constructed the stage would be willing to share the height of chain from floor when pullrd down from center. We haven’t been able to construct a mock up yet and the calculations I have seen range from 9 inches to 4 inches of drop from the beginning position of 28.25 inches.
I dont have the numbers here, but it should be easy enough to figure out. Under force it will change from a cateranery to/towards a triangle. You have the distance between the posts and the other two sides of the triangle will be 1/2 the chain length
We did a lot of math and still found it was wrong. Best to do some testing with hooks and weights. Empirical > Ideal
What were the measurements you ended up getting?
We calculated 2 inches of rise but got 2 inches of drop. There’s a video on PSU’s Ri3D YouTube channel which goes more in-depth on it.
The Ri3D video raises a good point. You will get differing results depending on whether you have a single hook grabber (a triangle) or a two hook grabber (a parallelogram). In the triangle case, the center lowers a bit. In the paralellogram case, though the two attachment points lower (less than in the triangle case), the center of the chain actually raises a bit.
Also your results appears to be fairly sensitive to getting your chain just the right length (which can vary depending on which carabiners and screw eyes you happened to use). I would suggest buying just a bit extra length in your chain (maybe 9’6") and then adjust the length by which link you carabiner to until the drop off the ground is as close to correct as you can get
