My team is thinking about using two RSLs this season. What is the proper way to do this? There is only one terminal on the RoboRio for the RSL. Do we connect into the RoboRio and then slice off to the second RSL?
yes, that is how most do it, but i am curious: why? is it just for symmetry?
I have not idea why. It is something they want to do and it is easier to let it happen then argue with a imbecile. (other mentor)
Pick your battles kind of moment huh?
Some robot designs can make it so there’s not a singular location for an RSL visible from all angles. A second RSL can be helpful in a situation like that to avoid issues with inspection/being legal in match play.

And also for, y’know, safety .
Psssshhhh. I’ll know the robot is enabled when it smacks me in the face. Everyone knows the RSLs are for being pretty and blinky.

There shouldn’t be issues with inspection or legality for almost any location on a robot. It only has to be easily visible from 3 feet away and only on one side of the robot.
Some people just like to make robots more blinky.
I know we wanna do it cause we just love RSLs so much, can’t speak for other teams though.
I made a circuit board that connected the RSL port on the roborio to up to 10 lights.
Just for fun; illegal in competition
A. mounted on the ROBOT such that it is easily visible while standing 3 ft. (~ 100 cm) away from at least one side of the ROBOT.
i know that my strange, industrial-obsessed 7yo self woulda loved to have an RSL somewhere
The visibility requirement for the RSL is three ft in one direction. Not 360 degrees. (R709) Although the more is better from a practical matter. The rule about one wire per connector is for the PDB/PDH. Though doing it elsewhere might irritate your RI. Lots of other ways to splice wiring for the RSL together.
After talking about it more. The reason is the limelight is going to be near it. By putting two RSLs, 1 on each side it should not affect the Limelight.
