Ok, I registered a URL for the new team we are getting started, the url hollandalternativehsfirstrobotics.us. Currently I just have it, once the name server finishes, it’ll link to my personal site mike-site.us. I saw somewhere on here, on CD, a way to make the new link go directly to the directory where the team’s site is, the site is mike-site.us/page1.html. Any help would be appretiated. I am running apache2 on win xp pro, on dual 2ghz, 80gHD runs 24/7 running 10+ days straight I think?
PM me or write here if you have a problem with it or have comments.
What you need is the NameVirtualHost directive. It will let Apache answer requests for both sites at the same IP address by looking at the URL which the browser sent. That way you won’t even have to redirect people to your other site.
Also, that is some pretty substantial hardware firepower for running Apache. I have done a lot of performance testing with Apache for Windows and IIS 5.0. Barring heavy CGI/dynamic work, that server of yours will be able to handle an incredible load. On a Pentium 166mhz, 64MB ram, 4gb hard disk, I was able to handle 9 requests/sec under Apache 1.3.31, 414 requests/sec with Apache 2.0.50, and 434 with IIS 5.1, with a static, 1kb text page. Yes, that massive jump from Apache 1.3.31 to 2.0.50 is correct. The numbers here are averages of 8 trials, with the cache cleared between trials. I got that system to stay up for a maximum of 129 days, before lightning took out the power here.
If you need any help with Apache on Windows at all, PM me.
Thanks, I beleive thats what i’m looking for. I’ll be testing it in a minute to actually check it, just stopped by here to check for suggestions.
Yes, it is Another Holland-area team, basicly my family has been involved since I started back in '99 and we thought we would give another HS a chance, since they were left out of everything else.
I originally built the system to be used as a dial-up ISP, but after getting everything setup and finding a sDSL provider I found out the equipment to actually do it (the dial-up isp part)was a little too expensive for me. So instead I decided to put it to use with websites. This is also a computer which I store backups of music and videos. Between my 4 computers I have nearly 1/2 TB but plan to put an additional 1-2 on my server. I would kinda like to help as a backup for soap’s files, err a mirror if I can get it setup with them. I would easily have the processor power, and after I upgrade my sDSL one step I’ll have the bandwidth. I havent tested my server as to what it’ll do on apache but i’m sure it would be fairly good.
It is important to use the * instead of 0.0.0.0. This allows apache to use the name instead of the IP address and since you don’t have the ip address of 0.0.0.0 then that is why it is giving you some grief. You can PM if you have any problems. I had to fight with my apache directives a little until it worked just right.
Also in the ServerAlias section only have the *.hollandalternativehsfirstrobotics.us
ok, I finally got my linking and virtual hosting corrected. you can now visit my site at mike-site.us and the newest Holland, Mi team’s website at hollandalternativehsfirstrobotics.us I will be getting another URL shorter because as you can probably tell its a long URL to type.
Now I need Ideas as to what to add to the site and pictures of things our team is getting together. We are working on funding and sponsorship and already have our very large room in the old Holland EE Fell.
