Duel on the Delaware (Official Thread) - Any predictions?

The Duel on the Delaware will be held this Saturday, October 23, at Salem Community College in Carneys Point, NJ. A group of great teams will be on hand for some Fall Frenzy. Even if your team is not planning to attend, come on down and share the FIRST spirit.

Bring some books for our Make a Difference Day Book Drive. The winning team (in weight of books donated) will get back their registration fee (sounds like an awesome team dinner on the drive home!).

I don’t know who take home the “gold”, but I surely can’t wait to see old friends, new teams and our wonderful Mike Wade and Ron Partridge again! They’re wonderful guys. =)
DO THE DUEL! =) Good luck to all teams participating!

I predict duel is gonna be a rough and tumble competition. so many good teams too short of a day :ahh: We’re all packed up and ready to roll early tomorrow morning. Can’t wait to see everyone down there!

Cliff

P.S. we’re looking to defend our title from last year

Hey, yay duel’s tmrw!!! throws confetti!!! this is going to be some serious competition I think, but meeting some CD friends will be fun! haha. Well, I hope all teams do well.

We are ready to DUEL!!!

Um with err… Gracious professionalism of course!

Thank you in advance to 365, 316, Mike Wade and Pete Baltzell (those NASA Guys!) for putting on the show!!

Good luck to everyone at the Duel!

I just got back from duel!

Very fun competition…We didn’t do so hot, though. I think about everything that could break broke. We ended up just driving around the field with two deader than dead tires and a broken arm, attempting to herd/defend/keep other teams from getting points. ah well. sorry to all the teams allied with us, we were NOT having a good day. :ahh: And thanks to everyone who puts this competition together, it was great  .

Wow what can i say, that was an amazing time.

thanks to 316 and 365-it was one of the best offseason competitons that i have ever been to. Almost no delays(only one was ours, when we couldnt get the treads on). Food was great and the rounds were run soo smoothly.

And thanks to our Championship alliances partners of 222 and 225 for putting up an amazing victory. 225 great job sticking it out in the semi’s, and Henry(222) i must admit that was one of the best rounds of driving i have ever seen in the final final match. A 3 second remaining hang, just woh :yikes: . Congratulations to all other winners on the day, 816, 303, and 007, for being a great final round match-up.

Once again, thanks to all, was a pleasure being there today.

Gotta agree to every word that Corey said. Congrats 316 and 365 for putting together such a fantastic competition. Congrats 222, 225 for being our partners, and congratulations to 816, 303, and 007 for being the finalist. Great job guys, congratulations

DOTD was my very first competition, and I had a wonderful time!
Everyone there was so nice and welcoming.
Thanks for a great first (haha…puns) experience…I think I’ll be coming back for more.

Omg…222 and 25 on the same team, I thought it wasn’t meant to be!!!
Guess not, haha. Great job 25 (corey and bharat) 225, and all teams out there. This was even better than last year’s Duel in my opinion. I had tons of fun. PLus my team got a couple of newbs into the scene here. Thanks goes out to everyone involved with helping Duel function in any way. Can’t wait till next year (defending our 2 year straight title.)

P.S. Will there be match videos available online or…anywhere?

Our rookies got hooked, it was a learning experience for all and everyone had a chance to be on the field.
Thanks to 365 and 316 for sponsoring a great comp. Thanks to Mike and Peter and all the dozens of volunteers.
Special thanks to 816 and 303 for giving the second-to-last place team a chance to play in the finals and bring home a trophy. What a fun day!

Great teams, great volunteers, and great sponsors make a great event.

Thanks to all the teams who competed, either with battle-worn vets or team members on their first tour of duty. There were some big time hits going on throughout the day.

Thanks to all the volunteers (about 100) who directed traffic, served food, set-up and took down the field, and provided entertainment.

Thanks to NASA (the Mike and Pete show) for the field and their time, Ron Partridge for the emceeing and the blimp, Bill Enslen for the play-by-play, Brandywine Electronics for the A/V, Jake Warren for the end of event video compilation, Salem Community College for the venue, DuPont for the monetary donation, and Success Won’t Wait for coordinating the book drive.

Congrats the the following trophy winners:

Champs: 222, 25, 225 (the “2” and “5” alliance)
Finalists: 816, 303, 7
Play of the Day winners: 1218, 222
Put a Tiger in Your Controller Winners: 222
Make a Difference Day Book Drive Winners: 84

We have the full competition video on DVD (thanks to Brandywine Electronics) and will be sending a note out to team contacts with information on how to get a copy.

For those of you heading to the Eruption next weekend, have a blast. The MOE and SAM squads will see you all at Ramp Riot on November 13.

If you have pictures you would like to share from the event, please post them. We would love to see them!

When the alliance numbers were picked we knew it was fate…
Thanks to 222 for picking us (first) and for 225 for the great play. Even with those damned treads popping off we seemed to do OK to buy time for the Claw, which was consistent and dominating.

Thanks to all on the Miracle Worker and Lunatecs teams for hosting a great day. And thanks to all we played with and against for great competition and lots of fun action.

We’ll see many of you next week at Brunswick Eruption- and we will still squeeze in any teams who want to get in on the action. Drop me an e-mail.

(very tired)

Duel was a wonderful time!! I had much more fun than last year.
Thank you so much to teams 816 and 303 for doing so well and helping us when we kind of…couldn’t do what we needed. You both are wonderful teams and we had so much fun doing the Duel with you!!
A huge congratulations to teams 222, 225, and 25 for an amazing, tense victory! Team 007 is extremely proud and happy for you!!
I personally can’t wait until next year’s Duel! =)

WOW!! I had a great time at the Duel! That hang I made was just…amazing! I couldn’t believe it. I’d like to give congrats. to teams 816, 303, and 7. You guys did great! Thanks also to 365 and 316 for putting on this comp. Also, thanks to my team (Henry, Cliff) for staying cool on the floor, and our partners, 25 and 225. It was great! Next comp. 10/30/04

Competitive teams…Some super-spirited volunteers…good & reasonably priced food…overall very well run. Thank you MOE & Lunatecs.

Thanks to 222 & 25 for the ride.

Apparently my team had 6 yr of pent-up SPIRIT…who knew? lol

Was the PERFECT experience to hook our rookies before our fall “Tech Talk” lecture series begins!!

Lisa Tarman

Thanks to all who made DOTD a great day–as usual! Not only did our rookies get hooked, but so did their parents.

Thanks also for the trophy and the check. We were surprised, to say the least. We appreciate your generosity. The trophy will be on display in an honored place.

See y’all at Ramp Riot.

Very cool competition guys, sry for our alliances, the robot just broke. grumbles but it was REALLY fun!!! Cheers to team 25 and everybody else!
I posted some more pics from Duel so check them out

O ya forgot a few comments.

Music/DJ-was great-all songs were good got everyone, well at least my team, into good moods. I for one, kept singing along.

Queing-was at perfect times, never to early, never too late. Everyone was where they shouldve been.

The only problem i saw, which was incredibly small, was that in the corner of the one side of pits, 87 and 84 seemed to be slightly cramped, not much, but just a little. All in all it did not matter much, but ya know, nothing can be perfect.

Once again, it was an amazing competition, not once was there a big problem, and you can count on 25 being there for years to come.

I would like to give props to one team that displayed a good example of gracious professionalism at the Duel on Sat. In one match, the scorekeepers accidentally typed in a “1” instead of “10” for the number of balls in the goal - big difference! The mistake reversed the results and gave the wrong alliance the win. The losing alliance, who should have been the winners, appropriately and politely pointed out the error. A member of the winning alliance, 357 (please correct me if I got the team wrong) said “Yes, they’re correct, they should have won and we should have lost”. They didn’t have to confirm the error but it was a good example of the gracious professionalism that we should all aspire for.
