Everyone,
: Would you be willing to jot down notes along the way and come up with sort of a
: ‘Dummy’s Guide to Starting a FIRST Team’ - maybe add advice from others
: with the same experience - post under ‘White Papers’? Sponsorship, recruiting,
: etc.
: The ASME Guide has a lot of good information. But first-hand accounts
: seem to be what a lot of people are asking for.
: I’m going through the same thing, trying to get a local high school
: interested and sponsored. So I can add the things that work here.
: I know it’s the end of the school year and a lot of you are probably very busy.
: So…this could be a group effort. I volunteer to be the ‘Ghost Writer’. If
: you, or anyone else wants to get involved, send me an e-mail with their
: ideas & experiences. Include your name & team number (optional).
: This could also have a section on fundraising ideas, etc.
: This could also be put up on a web page - any volunteers for the job of
: webmaster out there?

I think one good source of information for what teams do during the year and the impact FIRST can have on the community is the Chairman’s Award Entries. We have our last year’s Chairman’s Award entry on our Web site in PDF format, and should have this year’s by the end of the week.

I think FIRST should encourage teams, espicially the Chairman’s Award finalists, to make their entries available to all teams. I’ve talked to teams that were reluctant to send me their Chairman’s Award entry, as though they were afraid we’d steel their secrets (I havn’t asked anyone yet this year, so don’t jump to any conclusions). But I think teams should be proud of their entry and eager to share the great things they did with other teams. We all share a common goal here.

Maybe we could find a central point to store Chairman’s Award Entries. The video portion is much harder to handle, but the written portion could easily be translated to PDF and made available over the web. Any other suggestions? Do you have your Chairman’s Award entry posted on your site? Let us know.
