Hey
I have a 3 com modem/router which connects to my pipex isp. It used to be a 512 k service however a couple of days ago it was supposedly updated to a 1 meg. According to the router its connecting at 2 meg download, however a net test showed it was downloading at 960 kb/s. Since the upgrade the internet has died every 2 minutes or so… causing me great angst as it does automatically re connect but its just impossible to do anything like download something.
Anyone have any ideas why it could be doing this (adsl btw)

(note : it died as i finished the post and went to hit the submit button…)
Have you called your ISP yet?
I’d assume that the problem is on their end, because you said nothing about changing your setup or settings.
havn’t changed anything here.
I am kinda waiting to find out the user name etc for it lol
contact your isp. I have the same problem with my isp, except I am running sDSL. I have a guaranteed connection and if I have a problem I simply call them and they fix it. The problems I’ve had with my ISP was the modem/router. They called SBC (phone company) and they repaired some lines. then they came to the house and traced the lines. Basicly SBC has screwed up the phone lines in the area so badly ( from numerous underground splices) that it sometimes will disconnect every 5 minutes all day. then some times it will last for days. SImply call up your ISP and they can check it out. It could simply be a setting on you rmodem/router.

I had the same problem when I first got my cable modem… it made IRC and everything else a real pain. Calling your ISP should get it straightened out.
