Obviously, FIRST is all about recognition and inspiration. This absolutely holds true for the FIRST Championship event. To further encourage each of us to create the world we would love to live in, MOE 365 is initiating our second annual, limited edition, PERSONAL RECOGNITION button. This button will not be distributed freely (like our dozen or so other buttons), but must be EARNED by an individual.
The way it worksā¦
Each MOE team member attending the Championship (about 60 students and mentors) will have only 2 (two) PERSONAL RECOGNITION buttons. Each button holder will be instructed to award a button for what they believe to be the best examples deserving recognition in the following areas:
Gracious Professionalism
Helpfulness
Spirit / Enthusiasm
Xtreme Safety
Bringing people together
These areas and how our team members assess people against them is going to be somewhat subjective. However, the overriding factor is actions āDeserving Special Recognition.ā
Not only will recognized individuals receive one of our limited edition buttons (~120 in all), but the MOE team member awarding the button will record the name, team number, and reason for the recognition at the time of the award. We plan on posting all recognition awardees (or at least as many as we obtain information for) on our website shortly after the Championship.
So put your Gracious Professional game-face on and do what you always do at FIRST competitions, create an environment we all wish we lived in everyday!
ā¦and look out for those glowing green jerseys. They might end up pinning a button on you!
See yāall in Atlanta. Safe travels everyone!
P.S. The button graphics are included in the attachement to this post.
Itās like the awards that teams hand out⦠only you can wear them.
Well, actually we won an award from the Arctic Warriors, and I did end up wearing the sign with the help of a small drilled hole, a rubber band, and a bead necklace from the Martians or someone.
No need to drill these awards, unless our crack team of MOEboteers, who made them, forgot to put the pin back on!
I know our button quality control varies over the season (and on how nice the weather is in Wilmington, Delaware. It has been really nice the last week). Now that I think of it, you just might need to drill them. :ahh:
while its great what you are doing. i think a program like this really brings out the true spirit of firsters, some are in it for the buton some are in it because they love it. In my eyes it sounds like this is what you guys love to do and so i must commend you on your efforts.
This was something that developed last year as we discussed how our team recognizes others. We realized that there was a gap, because we gave out team awards, but there were many folks who deserved recognition on a personal level ā which did not fit into a āteam awardā category. So we began the Personal Recognition Award at last years Championship event to thank these individuals. This year, we have been able to expand it by providing buttons for all teams to distribute at the Pittsburg and Philadelphia regionals.
We encourage all teams to expand on this idea and develop their own PRAās, because itās impossible for any one team to see all the GP acts being performed. Taking a moment to hand out a personal award and thank someone lets them know their positive contribution is greatly appreciated.
Make someoneās day in Atlanta, and give them a PRA designed by your team!
Wow. I love awards from teams! Especially the one we got from HOT last year as the āBest Tetra Stackerā at the Buckeye Regional. Thatās a fun one.
Believe it! We actually got into a habit of NOT adding green to them because they were part of a FIRST pilot at Pittsburgh and Philly this season. We went back to MOE-distributed button awards for the Championship and (swallows hard) did not add any signature MOE green to them. :ahh:
Since we had little time to make them, they buzzed through our button production facility like lightning before anyone discovered there was no MOE green. By the time our crack team of button inspectors noticed, they were all completed.
So, whoever gets one of these babies at the Championship will have something truly special - a MOE button without green on it.
