earning points from opposite alliance's switch

We are wondering if we can earn points from owning the switch that is in the opposite alliance’s side of field, or we can only earn points from the switch that is in our alliance side?

Another question is if we can earn points from the opposite alliance’s switch by activating the force power up?

In 4.2 Scoring (pg 37) the manual says:

The SWITCH located closest to its ALLIANCE STATION is considered that ALLIANCE’S SWITCH. While any ROBOT can place POWER CUBES on the PLATES of either SWITCH, an ALLIANCE can only have OWNERSHIP of, and accumulate points for, their SWITCH.

To me this strongly implies that your alliance can only get points from your alliance’s switch. I’m a little more unsure of whether force applies to both switches or just or own.

Also the definition of FORCE in the glossary is:

FORCE
A POWER UP which earns OWNERSHIP points from an ALLIANCE’S SWITCH, SCALE, or both regardless of PLATE position

Since you’re confused and seem to know this might be an issue, I’m wondering if you have other evidence that you might be able to score points for your opponents switch?

You can only earn point from your own switch and can not earn points from your opponents. This is stated in the field tour video about the switch.

So if red alliance flips blue switch, blue alliance will not get the points right? Need to review rules with my buddies again.

You are correct. Owning the opposite alliance’s switch will only stop them from receiving points, it will not give your alliance any extra.

Great! A point saved is a point earned!
