EDU R/C Based Robot

Take a look - Pat (ItsPat of 30) and I built this today. It was a 1980’s robot programmed in PASCAL and it used a cassette tape for storage. Lacking an original IBM PC, we removed all the electronics and put in the Edu Robot controller.

We had the misfortune of losing our EDU robotics kit from last year, but we were lucky because Pat had a hobby R/C System at home. The robot’s eyes are solar panels, and we’ll be adding a proximity sensor soon.

We have some interesting problems. If we power on our receiver and the transmitter before the EDU-RC, the EDU-RC will not turn on at all. If we used the receiver in an unpowered mode, this problem doesnt exist. And if we use the receiver in a powered mode and dont apply power to the controller, the fans on the two speed controller run, but nothing else works. It might be interesting to see why =).

Overall tho, tell us what you think. And be kind =) It WAS made in two hours.
:]

Looks really cool! I think the reason you’re getting problems when you supply power to the reciever is that the eduRC supplies its own power to it. I think the Manual says not to supply power to the receiver… I’ll have to double check. Cool nonetheless!

I’m sure it was nice when you first made it, but by the next day it wasn’t working. Not to mention it fell apart the moment someone picked it up. Here on FURY we have high quality crimping and of course we don’t need fasteners or anything…

Maybe with a little more work it’ll be good enough to win the Excellence in Control or Excellence in Design award ;).
