EduRobot Crab Drive

I am currently in the process of making a crab-drive edu robot… my room has officially become a war-zone, what I was wondering is if anyone has any pics of any previous EduCrab drives? I remember seeing Team 79 driving one around at Nationals, but couldn’t find any pics here or on their website… Any help would be greatly appreciated-

Are you talking about crab drive or swerve drive?

He is talking about swerve, if you want to get technical. Many of us just call it crab, although Im sure you can tell us how crab involves moving straight to the side in the x-axis

OMG not this again. It is the same thing.

let me clarify- I won’t have pop-down wheels like you guys had last year, but will instead have wheels that turn like 111… (I call that crab drive, it just sounds cooler than swerve)

and whats up sanddrag?

I think of some pretty nasty things when the term crab comes to mind…

…like the little nasty fella’s I cooked at a crab house over the summer

Swerve is the better sounding word, it’s sophisticated

Well, as long as this thread is getting technical, “up” is a relative word. So I don’t really know what you mean. “The sky” is what others tell me…

We built a 3 wheeled edu crab drive last year. I will get a picture up next week, when i can go get it in the lab. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] and i’ll fill you in with details

I’ve build a prototype of my crab drive using edu parts, but it’s only 1 wheel assembly. It is a working model though… there just weren’t enough edu parts left to build the full thing. Plus the gears don’t work too well as beveled gears unless their lined exactly right, or you have them locked down pretty well…
