EI Presentations at Champs?

At the MAR Championships, there were presentations for both Chairman’s and EI for judges. Are there EI presentations at World Champs? The A-Z Team Guide seems to discuss only Chairman’s presentations at World Champs. Thanks in advance.

Engineering Inspiration is judged by the judges who go through pits and talk to each team. There is no formal interview for EI like there is for Chairman’s.

Did they go into a room to present to the judges for EI? That’s something I have never heard of. I’m not totally against that idea. In fact, I think it would be a great idea for teams who aren’t going to RCA to get some presentation practice and face time with the judges.

It’s unique to the Michigan and MAR championships because teams eligible for the award are not necessarily competing with their robots at the events.

So those who are competing at MAR and won a district chairman’s don’t bring their robots to champs?

No, District Chairman’s gives an automatic bid into the district championship, regardless of robot performance(this year, however, in MAR at least, all teams that won District Chairman’s would have qualified for MAR Champs anyway).

The same does not apply to EI. For example, 321 were one of two EI winners at MAR Champs(something I didn’t even know was going to happen until the awards ceremony…), but they did not perform well robot-wise and as a result did not “compete” in the event. So basically, EI does not give an autobid to COMPETE in MAR Champs, but the EI winner at MAR champs had to have won it at a district.

I believe almost all of the chairman’s teams at MAR champs qualified for St Louis too, one way or another.

Just to complete the picture, those MAR and Michigan EI winners then qualify for Worlds and compete with their robot like everyone else. Kinda strange if you ask me, but I’m not in charge.
