Eight discs on center line at match start?

That’s what I see on the qualifier webcasts. I thought there would be two discs on the center line at the start of a match. Did I miss something? My CD searching turned up nothing.

Per 3.1.1-B-3:

The extra discs are because not all robots are pre-loading all 3 of the discs available to them for auto

If any team doesn’t load (or loads less than 3) their starting discs then those discs are placed on the center line.

From section 3.1.1 MATCH Setup, part B 3:

At least two (2) DISCS are placed centrally between the GUARDRAILS and along the field CENTER LINE.
Any DISCS not preloaded in ROBOTS per part Aabove (e.g. the ROBOT is preloaded with fewer than three (3) DISCS, the ROBOT isn’t in the MATCH, etc.) are placed adjacent to the DISCS on the CENTER LINE. The non-preloaded DISCS are added to each side of the existing pair such that the group of DISCS on the CENTER LINE is centered. If there is an odd number of DISCS staged on the CENTER LINE, the extra DISC will be placed on the scoring table side of the group.

Thank you. I must have missed that one. Back to the game manual.

So, bots that have no magazine, or don’t shoot, would give up their auto discs to the center line. If you are a shooter with no auto mode, you should still take the pre-load so you can shoot immediately at the start of teleop.

There must be quite a few non-shooters.

Or a lot of teams choose for the easier “up front” shot in auto starting in front of the auto line, therefore limiting them to only 2 discs. The 3rd unused disc is then placed in the center.

I know there was some discussion or Q&A of it but could you remind me if the discs are equally allotted to both sides of the discs already in the middle of the center line or is there some other method of deciding where they go?

Discs are placed evenly on either side along the centerline, as stated by the previously referenced rule.

Discs are alternated r/l/r/l/etc… until they are gone. One side may have one more then the other if there are an odd number of discs.
