Electronics CAD help

I’m currently attempting to CAD out our electronics in OnShape. I have the MKCad libraries but I’m struggling to lay them out on a basic board I created. Do you have any tips on how to make this an easier process or how to do it correctly?

When my team did it, we just jointed the electrical component to the board and then moved it around to the proper position (in Fusion). although I realized fusion has an Align tool so that would replace the joint but yeah.

Our team uses the “Fastened mate” tool in Onshape to attach imported parts to the mounting holes we added to our bellypan.

How did you do the position for the mounting holes did you pull up drawings of the part?

Yeah. We just had to use the technical documents from CTRE and other manufactures to find the mounting patterns.

You might want to use the Planar Mate. That will allow you to move the control system components around on the panel/board/bellypan. It is rare that the exact location of the component matters. What matters most is getting a good layout that allows you to run all the wires in a sensible way. There are many threads on CD on how to do a good electrical layout. This document is just one guide to electrical layout
