Elimination match music

Exact song I posted and didn’t even notice.

For the parade of the mentors, or whatever it’s called, I’m not joining again unless the music is Entry of the Gladiators.

For the last day of build season, The Melody Shop is my favorite. But it’s only 2 1/2 minutes, so that would get repetitive.

Jason Miller - Rules of Nature
Myth & Roid - Theatre D
Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls

For finals match 2 at Mayhem in Merrimack 2019, we played the Halo 2 theme

Would love to see someone use Blitzkrieg by Metallica. I’ll also agree with Andrew_L and say anything from Mariokart 8 would be excellent. Especially Electrodrome and Bowser’s Castle.

When I think “FIRST Finals” I think “old techno”
“Sirius” by The Alan Parsons Project
“Better Off Alone” by Alice DJ (I remember googling this after hearing it played over the webcast in 2008)
“Stamp On The Ground” by ItaloBrothers
“KernKraft 400” by Zombie Nation
“Streamline” by Newton
“Exploration of Space” by Cosmic Gate

If you’re looking for a one-stop shop of nostalgic techo, I made a playlist for that mood.

I reset my CD account just so I could investigate what’s up with the FIRST Music DJs scene, and if the playlists have been updated. Checking out http://firstmusicdjs.com right now doesn’t give me a lot of insight.

At the end of last year and right before COVID, I decided to get serious and assemble the entire FIRST playlist in MP3 form (which was a tad challenging, but a great start to mentoring some of our team members interested in volunteering for FLL/FTC tourneys). We even went as far as cutting down the “game on!” selections to three minute clips which ended on the buzzer. That’s as far as we got though.

Fast forwarding to 2021 and beyond, has this playlist been updated? What EXACTLY are the rights surrounding what can and cannot be played? A nightmare scenario is content removal due to usage violations or worse. Is this an actively curated FIRST area?

I’m quite fond of game OSTs. Some of my favorites include:

Chasing Daybreak (Thunder) - Fire Emblem Three Houses
Geomijul Encounter - Yakuza: Like a Dragon
Magikarp Festival - Pokken Tournament
Hope Vs Despair - Danganronpa
I’ll Face Myself - Persona 4

I’ve been meaning to make a thread regarding this for a while now given the current situation regarding DMCA on Twitch. I suspect the playlists are going to have to be overhauled to keep FIRST’s Twitch channels from being banned with how the record labels started cracking down last year, or event streams will have to either have no music or a separate playlist of video game music and other stream-safe music.

In reading Music-Related Copyright Claims and Twitch | Twitch Blog , it’s clear that FIRST events on Twitch are going to be subject to DMCA takedown unless something actively is worked out.

The workarounds I see are to, as you suggest, completely rework the playlists, or keep the music out of the streams. I think the latter is workable, since BMI and ASCAP (the gold standard for usage guidelines) stipulate that as long as there’s no monetary gain from the event and no admission is charged, “restricted” music may be played unless there is a specific letter of objection from the artist. HOWEVER I am not a lawyer, and it would be a very good idea to engage FIRST legal (I assume this exists) to determine usage guidelines.

If it is a matter of not being able to stream music, then the “game on” music would have to be specifically allowed to be streamed on Twitch as it would be nearly impossible to extract it from the background/ambient match audio.

Again though- event coordinators should receive clear guidance on this before in-person events resume.

I played this in 2018 and our team started getting our preferred switch/scale layout every match…

(we were just very lucky)
