6424 is looking at building a few practice ramps to make sure we can consistently climb a ramp bot at endgame if required. We are planning on making a climber with a buddy bar but if we are in an alliance that contains a ramp bot we want to make sure we can work together to get that ranking point. If some teams would be willing to share there plans we would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
If we end up using a ramp, it will be 33" wide x 38-40" long. ~18 degree incline on our ~12" high robot.
You can expect several ramps to be upwards of 25 Degrees on the incline. In my opinion your optimal way to go if you want to climb ramps is to be slightly smaller than max dimensions, and be able to go up a 30* incline. That would make you compatible with most, if not all ramps .
My reasoning for this is I assume any team resourceful enough to attempt a ramp will put some thought unto the dimensions, and most likely try to be as wide and flat as possible, I doubt a ramp would exceed 30* or be smaller than max wheelbase.
I think you’ll want to take past experience into account. People making ramps should make them as low angle as possible, because you’ll have a lot of robots there that can barely get up the incline to the platform. Conversely, do yourself a favor and design with a higher front bumper and entry angle, because you’ll have people with ramps that are ridiculously steep.
