After flashing a limelight, I wanted to set it up with the Limelight Hardware Manager. However, when doing so, I got told that the connection was closing.
So, I went to the limelight finder. However, when looking for it, I got this error:
Hey, looks like the error is saying the connection to the Limelight was refused. This usually happens when something’s up with the network settings. First thing I’d check is if your PC’s Ethernet adapter is set to a static IP in the same range as the Limelight, like 169.254.x.x. If it’s not, the Limelight Finder won’t be able to connect properly.
Also, double-check the Ethernet connection, sometimes a bad cable or port can cause issues like this. If everything looks good there, try power cycling the Limelight and your computer. That’s fixed it for me a couple of times.
169.254.x.x is an autoconfigure address that a networked device assigns itself if it doesn’t get one assigned to it by services on the network (specifically DHCP).
Is the limelight connected to the laptop directly, or through a network switch/robot radio/etc?
@Stormbreaker is almost certainly correct that your laptop has an address in the wrong range. The Limelight finder tool uses mdns to discover devices. This doesn’t rely on IP routing, so if its on the same link or broadcast domain, it’ll find it, but that doesnt mean that routed IP traffic would be able to get there.
I did what @Stormbreaker suggested, however I’m still getting the same error.
To answer your question @Fletch1373, I tried both to connect via just the robot and then also via ethernet cable to the limelight. In both situations, I got the same error.
When you say on the robot, can you expand on the networking setup? If the radio is still connected, the error shouldn’t be the same, at a minimum the IP address should be different.
Also, you can confirm that the correct image was installed by watching for blinking status lights. If the two small LEDs are not blinking at all, you may want to try reflashing.
