Event Preferencing - How'd we do in Round 1?

Seems like some events were wildly popular, while others only had a few takers. So, CD, how’d your team do? Also, anyone else going to CAAV, see you there!

We got our first choice, but it’s also our ‘home’ event so that’s not really a fair comparison to others.

(In FIM, every team gets a ‘home’ event, generally the event closest to them. If you preference this event in the first round, you are guaranteed to entry to that event)

Got into Utah!

Put only the event that is 10mi away. Got it.
I think with more week 1 California events, there was less demand for OCR. Though I know a team on the waitlist.

4930 is going to Rochester!

Very happy that we got into our first (and only) choice that was not our home event. Week 2 in FiM had some slim pickins.

Our first choice (Lake Superior) filled up but we got into Northern Lights which is in the same place at the same time, and honestly I’m feeling pretty good about our low lottery number so far. (We’ll see after round 2 though, Northern lights has a good amount of slots open)

For California, it looks like 212 CA teams have initially been placed, and 90 teams without an event. However, the holdbacks were increased this year, so I expect a huge majority of those to be cleared off waitlists in the next two weeks, prior to round 2 opening. I expect we will see the registration numbers jump up fairly quickly in the next few days as invitations are quickly accepted.

Also, I see 6 CA teams playing OOS (Out Of State), and 18 OOS teams playing in CA so far.

Very interesting phenomenon happening, last year 3 MN teams went to the Colorado Regional, so far there are I think 3 CO teams at Week 1 MN Regionals

NY will be a bit until it gets 1st events done.
HVR has 8 filled
FLR 29
LI 5
TVR 35
NYC 7

A few seemed to get into TVR that would want LI or NYC so I can see those changing too. (I know at least one team that put LI with waitlist then TVR that got put to TVR)
Others put only LI and nothing else waiting to get in.

Real! I’m not sure if FIM does the same as FNC, but for rookies they let them pick both their events and give them guaranteed admission to their events, so both my teams got our 2 event preferences since 1 is a rookie. We are going to Week 2 FNC Catawba County in Hickory NC and Week 4 FNC Pitt County event in Greenville NC.

Round 2 of event selection will be very interesting in Wisconsin. 7900 isn’t well funded enough yet to travel for regionals, so we are trying to go to Phantom Lakes and the Wisconsin Regional this year. But only 3 teams registered for Phantom Lakes so far and there are only 5 spots left at Wisconsin.

Crossing our fingers to get very lucky in Round 2

Paging 6036. How far down the pick list was BCVI?

There are actually 4! (1410, 1619, 2240, and 4418) It’s really hard for us to do back-to-back weeks due to distance, and a lot of our usual options (Utah, Green Country, etc.) got moved around, so a lot of us are going to new places this season. Can’t wait to be there!

The 36 capacity is only for the first round. Max capacity for Wisconsin is 48.

Gonna be a tough competition though, 111, 112, and a week one. Are you guys thinking of going to scrimmage this year or just keep preparing for the competition?

Maybe you cant say but doesn’t hurt to ask, Did 5690, 4009, & 5232 coming to Colorado last year play any factor in your teams decision to come to MN, or was it just the closest Week 1?

We used the tip we were given of, if you really need to make sure you get an event, put it as your first and only choice for the round one preferences. Then, try to get your other events later. See y’all at OC!

P.S. Cool to see High Tide going to Vegas again lol. Must’ve left a good impression

Disclaimer: I am not in a leadership position on 2240 (plus I’m brand new here) so take everything I say here with a massive pile of salt.

It probably depends on how far behind schedule we are, if we don’t need the time otherwise I’d assume so, it’s a pretty great opportunity for drive practice and pre-scouting.

I’m not entirely sure (see disclaimer above), but I can say that there was another option that was both closer and cheaper but people generally preferred Duluth for both strategic and fun-related reasons.

Duluth is an insanely cool & beautiful city, here’s a disclaimer I can share with you it is NOT very fun to be outside in Late February-Early March. So try and minimize time spent in the sometimes very frigid outdoors, Climate of MN (this is from 1971-2000 so it is generally a bit warmer now but bad winters still happen)
