Team Sigma 9692 is still waitlisted for our second event, as we didn’t get through the lottery! Hoping for waitlist clearances by November 1st since unrestricted event registration opens on October 31st.
Any advice on next steps for our team if we’re still waitlisted?
All of our desired events were full as of event preference close. Put LAR, SDR and LVR anyways, with SDR as waitlist. Got SDR waitlist.
As of this morning I’ve seen that 8 teams were added to OCR off the waitlist. Not sure how much movement there’s been for other events (especially outside of California). We’re sticking it out on the SDR waitlist for a while and keeping our fingers crossed that enough teams switch to other events.
We are waiting on SDR waitlist as well. There looks to be capacity for 10 teams left, with many more than that likely to be on the waitlist. It’s a shame our “home event” happens to be the biggest SoCal regional.
We got bitten once by not picking our home regional in 1st round. Ended up on the waitlist for it in round 2 for over a month. Now it’s the only I put for round 1.
This was sent to CHS Lead Mentor 1/2 and in the CHS slack yesterday:
We have exciting news to share. For the first time in seven years, Chesapeake’s FRC community has grown! Thanks to each of you and our supportive, inclusive community, we’re seeing positive growth in our district—adding new teams, sustaining our current teams, and even reviving those that had dissolved. It’s truly inspiring, and we are so grateful for your role in making this happen.
With this unexpected growth, however, we are having to pivot our event planning for this season. Here’s what you need to know: Event Planning Update
As we begin the process of finalizing team placements, we’re encountering some delays. Initially, we planned for 107 teams with 214 required plays, which would require six district events with an average capacity of 36 teams. This setup would allow for 220 total slots, with each event filled to regulation (a minimum 28 teams). However, with 110 teams now projected based on event preferences and a forecast of eight additional teams that we believe wish to compete (potential total of 118), we’re exploring options to ensure everyone has a chance to participate fully. Current Options to Address Capacity
Close registration at 110 teams (our least preferred option but we want to avoid a team registering but not competing at two events.)
Add a 7th event within a 1.5-hour radius of Washington, DC, in either Week 1 (Feb 28-Mar 2) or Week 3 (Mar 14-16), due to equipment availability. If you have capacity to host, please reach out.
To accommodate everyone, teams currently waitlisted will be prioritized for any new event slots based on venue location. What We Need from You
If your team hasn’t preferenced in Rounds 1 or 2,please do so by tomorrow, October 31 - this takes only a few minutes! This is critical for our capacity planning. If we don’t receive your preference, we will assume your team will not be competing this season. Note: Payment is not required to preference.
If you’ve already submitted your preference, no further action is needed. We’ll be moving teams off waitlists as we finalize placements.
We will provide an update on Monday, November 4. All teams will be notified by email, and we’ll share updates on Slack as well.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these growing pains. This is a fantastic sign of our community’s vitality, and we’re excited to see the impact of our collective efforts in the coming season. We ask that you hold any questions until after Monday as we work on this pivot.
Some data compiled by another mentor associated with the topic at hand:
Waitlisted for SDR since round 2. SDR has been stuck on 42 teams for a while. Seems like 8 more spots still there - fingers crossed. Added LVR and AZN waitlist today.
