This week the EWCP guys have decided to do a cast on how to build a sustainable team. We plan on talking about how you can prepare in the offseason and what is important to focus on. Additionally we will discuss sustainable robot design and construction. As a bonus topic we will have a short segment about how to bring the “Green” movement into your robotics program and maybe make a little green in the process.
Is there such a thing as a pulse/rythmn to the life cycle of a team? For example
1st year - awesome
2nd year - find out you are not really awesome
3rd year - Realize your doomed if you don’t do something
4th year - Barely made it
5th year - team begins to rebuild
6th year - … well you get the idea.
Wow! I never realized that, but it makes perfect sense. Our team followed the trend; 1st year - awesome, 2nd year - wish this was like the 1st year, 3rd year - maybe we aren’t cut out for this. Unfortunately we didn’t make it past the 3rd year, but I can only imagine that the 4th year is the hardest — likely most of the original students are gone at this point.
One hundred thousand percent correct. IMHO, the focus should be on helping the teams in years 3-4 as much as rookie teams. There are definite doldrums in those formative years.
