Right, that would qualify 8701, but would not generate a wildcard for 8531 since 8701 wasn’t qualified for the championship before the event and did not win 2 qualifying awards at the event
They announced the 1 automatic wildcard at Bayou as well but then when actually announcing said the wildcard was due to us having already won at Orlando.
I suspect that part of the script is wrong just due to whoever was preparing it copy/pasting from last year and not updating that section with the new wildcard rules.
In the seven rivers extra wildcard, I suspect it is an actual bug with the FMS wildcard logic that just hasn’t been caught yet since it is very rare for a rookie to qualify multiple times.
We were all confused, but I honestly think our team was more excited that 8701 got to go to Houston with EI than winning the actual regional. They are such a wonderful group of people and are so so deserving of going to champs. When our alliance was going against the 1 seed at Wisconsin, I remember one of our mentors telling them we’d be okay losing if it gave them the wildcard as RAS, and it was bittersweet when that didn’t happen.
If the outcome of this is that Terminknightors gets a slot due to an oops, they are also extremely deserving of the same experience and their program is more than worthy of similar recognition.
