Failed to update spark max

I’m trying to update a Spark MAX; however, whenever I try, I get the error message ‘Failed to update Spark MAX firmware on Spark MAX in recovery mode.’"

Have you tried the recovery mode? This means no battery power, no USB to start, hold down the reset button with a paperclip or something
small and then plug in just USB. One at a time without the can connection and then update the firmware. @brandonmcd has done this for us several times to good success.

This is what I’ve tried, and it’s still not working. I’ve attempted to find a solution, but everyone just goes back to that one, and it still fails.

That’s what REV support suggests as well at least on here. Have you reached out to them yet via their support email? If that fails there is something else wrong beyond the “norm”.

What do the status LEDs do when you turn it on and can you take any pictures of the actual motor controller that’s presenting issues?

We’ve had issues where some laptops work, and other just don’t no matter what. Could be a driver issue, but your best bet might be to find a different laptop and try that instead of getting the current one to work

I’ve had this issue before and I was able to solve it by running the Hardware Client as an administrator. Beyond that, I would suggest using the Rev SMARK MAX client instead of the Hardware client and trying to flash the firmware from recovery mode.
