Hi, we were doing our swerve PID tuning, and when we put a wrong P value, our motors went crazy… this led to one Falcon swerve motor to get a issue. When we try to run it, it doesn’t run. When testing, fortunately the motor started when got a helping hand to rotate the wheel. We tested it’s velocity, and it’s a bit slow, compared to the other falcons.
We think it might be the motor bulb that got problems, does it happened with anyone?
Not self-starting from certain angles and decreased power are classic symptoms of a single failed phase. My guess is the high exertion from the errant PID caused one phase to disconnect. If that’s the case, then you’re out of luck there’s no easy fix.
If you want to be sure of the problem, you can test this by removing the back cover of the Falcon. (the one they tell you not to remove) Note that THIS WILL DAMAGE YOUR MOTOR if it wasn’t already damaged, so it would be more out of curiosity than in order to fix the problem. Then check the resistance between each of the three coil phases, if any of them show a disconnect then there’s your problem. You probably want to contact Vex or CTRE support first though and see if they have any other suggestions.
