Fantasy Robotics Game (MN 10K Regional)

I am not sure how much the Venn diagrams of fantasy sports fanatics and robot enthusiasts overlap but I am certainly in the intersection, so I thought this would be a fun idea.

I generated salaries for all teams that will be at the Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional event. You have $35,000 (fake money of course) to spend on any five teams you want. At the end of qualification matches, I will use the the data from thebluealliance.com for 6 Categories (Ranking score, match points, auto points, rotor, touchpad, and pressure). Each of your teams will earn points for whatever place they finish in, in each of these categories. (Example: if they have the top score in the category, they will earn one point). So the lower your point total, the better. Ties will be ties, not broken by another category. I realize that those scores are not for individual teams, but that’s just the way it’s going to work. A little random chance based on pairings adds to the fun!
(edit: you have to pick five teams, entries with less will be thrown out)

If you are interested, just fill out the Google form that is linked to below. I am not great at web stuff, so you will have to enter in the salary for each team as well. Please do this correctly, if you try to spend too much, I will just throw out your entry. Also if you are inappropriate in your name, I will throw out your entry. Please limit yourself to one entry.

Winner gets nothing. Bragging rights, I suppose, but really nothing else. This is just for fun and gives people incentive to root for lots of different teams.

Thanks for setting this up! This is a great idea. Hopefully I do better with this than I did with fantasy football last season (curse you DeAndre Hopkins).

One question: how did you determine the salary values for each team? $6900 seems like quite a steal for 5172. Considering that they reached the semifinals at their first event, why are they cheaper than some teams that haven’t played yet?

I noticed the same thing. 5172 should be in the top 3

I have the same question. Setting up salaries would require an in-depth knowledge of each team participating… obviously that’s not possible, so going based previous results would be the most logical way to do it. Unfortunately a large majority of teams at 10K have yet to compete. I’m very curious as to how the values were generated.

Fantasy FIRST is actually a very real thing. Typically they do snake drafts due to the fact that it’s impossible to accurately represent each team’s value with a salary.

All that said… This is an awesome idea and I’m excited to see another Fantasy Football loving FIRSTer!

I used a very rudimentary formula…
=(10000-(G2-MOD(G2,100)))+400B2+600C2+1000D2+1500E2+2000*F2

G2 = team number
B2 = previous regional this year (1 or 0)
C2 = made elims in regional (1 or 0)
D2 = made semifinals (1 or 0)
E2 = made finals (1 or 0)
F2 = won finals (1 or 0)

Thought about going into more depth for salaries and even considered just artificially jacking up 5172 but then decided I would keep it simple (for the first one).

shhhhhhh

Closed.

Here are the picks

Looks like out of the 28 people who made full submissions, only 1 user didn’t have 5172 in their fantasy rankings.

Congratulations to Jon Langaas for winning the Salary Cap Fantasy Robotics Game for the MN10K Regional. Here are the full results
