Favorite brand(s) of PLA plus/pro? PETG?

We haven’t bought 3DP filament for quite a while. What brands of PLA plus/pro and PETG have you been liking recently?

eSun is pretty good. We have gotten a spool of blue pla+ and a spool of black pla+. Half the time we don’t really need to spray the bed for adhesion it sticks so well. It’s also really rigid when printed. MakerBot filaments are also fine, but eSun is the best we have found so far

Prusament all day everyday. Ya can’t beat anything about it except price, and not by much when you amortize failure costs.

Looks like Markforged is tryna give Prusa a run for their money though. They’ll lose, but it’ll be interesting.

We switched to Matterhackers MH build PLA this year. We are probably through 20 rolls or more. It works well. We’ve used a bunch of others including Hatchbox and eSun, and I think this MH stuff is as good for less cost.

My personal experience is with Hatchbox standard PLA and PETG. I can’t tell you how it stacks up to some of the other popular suggestions since I haven’t used them, but it has treated me well so far.

Similar thoughts here with overture PETG. Tried a couple other brands a couple years ago (don’t remember what brands) and ended up landing and sticking with overture as it’s treated me well.

Heard amazing things about prusament, but a little too pricy for me and my hobbyist needs.

Hatchbox works really well in my experience, but I’ve only bought their standard PLA.

There are a lot of good brands out there these days - more often than not, I find myself being more picky about color than brand! Some of my favorites:

  • PLA Pro: eSun
  • Silk PLA: Yousu (really nice surface finish)
  • PLA: Overture / Hatchbox
  • TPU: NinjaTek (flexible prints!)

Filamatrix. Prints like a breeze, you can get it in bulk and had proven to be very strong/tough.

eSUN PLA+: never had a problem with the prints, comes in a variety of colors (or, at least did before COVID)
Ninjatek Armadillo: Tough rigid TPU. We used this for our climber spool this year.

PLA: Hatchbox all day long. We used “Jessie” filaments from Printed Solid for awhile when Hatchbox was hard to get. No complaints.
TPU: Tried a bit of everything, no real recommendations.
PETG: Overture. Good quality and cost is very reasonable (plus Prime shipping is nice).

PC / PCCF and anything else: Prusament. We did some prototyping with PLA and final with PCCF and was very impressed. Not cheap (and shipping from Czech Republic on top of it) but was totally worth it in the end.

I’ve had a lot of great results with both Hatchbox and Overture for PLA+/PLA Pro and PETG, although recently I have started to drift more towards Overture for everything solely because they’ve changed from plastic to cardboard spools, which is easier to genuinely recycle.

cheapest you can find. We spent about $300 total this year just on filament as we printed our whole shooter mechanism.

For PLA, my personal favorites are Duramic and Esun PLA+, and hatchbox or overture for regular PLA. I don’t have any personal experience with PETG but i’ve heard great things about overture. Prusament is high quality stuff, but it comes at a cost.

Duramic PLA+ (Green and Black).

Very happy with ColorFabb nGen PETG.

Did you, by any chance, try the Purple or Yellow PETG we donated to FIRST? GreenGate3D gifted 100 spools and all were acquired by various teams; just don’t know who got them. If so, what did you think? Thanks, -Rich/GreenGate3D
