Favorite Robotics Team Movies, Documentaries and TV Shows to watch

What movies, films, documentaries or TV shows do you think are appropriate for Teams to watch while traveling/lunch during team meetings/bonding activities? I have a pretty big list below of Science/engineering/Robotics related movies and shows but I’m wondering if there’s any that people like?

List:

  • Slingshot
  • Mythbusters
  • A Dolphin Tale
  • Wall-E
  • Big Hero 6
  • Short Circuit (ignoring some mild swearing and the robot giving the finger once or twice… It’s rated PG I swear)
  • Real Steel
  • McGyver
  • White Rabbit Project
  • How it’s Made
  • Battle Bots
  • Unchained Reaction
  • Tron (Both Versions)
  • The Imagineering Story (the Disney Engineering Documentary)
  • Robots
  • Race the Sun (Solar Car Racing)
  • Scientific American Frontiers (Woodie Flowers hosted some seasons)

Edits based on suggestions below:

  • More Than Robots
  • Batteries Not Included (possibly inappropriate in one or two scenes, but I haven’t personally seen it before)

Does Batteries Not Included count? Technically they’re aliens/ufos, but I associate them with robots.

I’ve never seen it before, but I was reading the synopsis and other than the “fix-its having something like intercourse” for one to get pregnant so they can make more “fix-its” I’d say yes? I’ll have to watch it and see what the author of the synopsis meant by that part.

I feel like More Than Robots just kind of has to be on this list.

Moneyball.

Some language and it’s a sports movie, but there’s lots of parallels if you pay attention.

The Matrix
The Terminator
Avengers Age of Ultron

Gotta remind folks that robots aren’t always as nice as the ones we work with.

From the Earth to the Moon: Episode 5, Spider. (HBO miniseries from 1998). Great insight into design and iteration.

Where did you find nice robots to work with?!

Dozer will always be the nicest fellow to ever roam the floor of any field and animation. He is a Stallion among lesser bots.

True.

Unfortunately I don’t usually get to work with Dozer and our robots have failed to learn the whole break the laws of physics to do what we’re supposed to thing.

All AGVs/AMRs are just dozers in my mind… If only MiR and Locus robots had googly eyes and a plow…

Not strictly robots, but engineering, and improvising/overcoming challenge on a deadline

Apollo 11.

An entire documentary only made of real, archival footage from the mission. One of the most incredible things you can watch.

A total achievement in both engineering and filmmaking.
