the festo lights up. The air moves the cylinder out but won’t go back in when power from the battery is given to the festo. It works in manual, so what I have been reading, it is junk then right? So what kind of SMC device do I need to replace it?
If the Festo lights up before you send it a signal, then it’s probably wired incorrectly.
the ram is being pushed out by the Festo air port, then I hit the Festo to the battery to make it light up ( and make the ram go back in) and the ram does not go back into the cylinder when i give the festo power.
That could be a tubing problem then.
The solenoid tubing can easily be hooked up backwards.
How does your tubing compare with this photo?
Use the electrical connection as a reference.
The two ports to the right side are:
– INPUT is where your 60psi line from your regulator gets attached and that’s the closest port to the electrical connector.
– EXHAUST doesn’t get anything attached to it.
The 2 OUTPUT ports opposite the (electrical connector) get your actuator hoses.
P.S. Are you touching the Festo wires directly to the battery or are you using the Solenoid Breakout/Bumper?
Here’s a post by a Festo employee about a similar problem: Festo Solenoid Doesn't Work - #7 by STL - Pneumatics - Chief Delphi
directly to the battery
