[FF]: 2011 Seaon Long Fantasy FIRST

I think that it’ll result in a closer, more fun end result. It’ll also slow down the mad scramble every time somebody drops…

To answer some of RMiller’s questions: Initial position would be determined by final overall score from last season (all regionals + MSC + Championships), highest score at the bottom. Newcomers would go to the top, in random order. (NOTE: I would also go with using IRI scores for anybody competing in the IRI FF league that did not compete in Season Long last year.)

During the season (i.e., after competition begins) the most recent scores would be used, should a team go onto waivers. Waiver times would most likely be shortened from whatever is used during draft and build seasons.

You do raise a good point; however, I would like to note that no waiver time has been set yet. It could be a week, it could be an hour. 1-2 days is probably what we’ll go with. The decision, in the end, will have to come down to the drafter’s strategy. (Also note that it’s pretty rare for a powerhouse to suddenly change where they’re going.)

Going with the scenario where somebody at the bottom is busily upgrading with mid-level teams while everybody else waits for powerhouses, if they do that, more power to them. It wouldn’t be too hard to impose an extra restriction: Last (or last X) person on the list can’t participate in the next waivers.

Can someone make a short and concise post explaining exactly what the change in procedure is to me? I see a lot of back and forth but it’s very hard to follow and understand exactly what’s going on.

Waiver process: A newly-available team (one that is free as a result of being a late addition, or a player dropping out) goes on waivers for X time. During that time, anybody in that tier can put in a claim for that team. A priority list is kept of all the players–highest priority to claim a team gets them, drops a team, and goes to the bottom of the list. The now-free team goes on waivers as well (possibly). Unclaimed teams go into the pool as free agents.

Details to be sorted out:

  • time of waiver claim period
*]how to keep somebody on the bottom from continually upgrading without worrying about position

Now if you do pick up a waiver team, do you get to pick who you drop or is it a team of equal avg round pickup? (i.e. your alliance: 148, 111, 1986 but 1114 joins regional, can you drop the 3rd pick or do you have to drop 148?)

My opinion would be you can drop whoever you want. It could get quite messy determining what round is equivalent when mid-level teams are handled, just because 1816 is a solid round 1 at Northstar doesn’t mean they are at Wisconsin as an example.

With regards to people near the bottom of the priority list upgrading with a bunch of midlevel teams, I think this is just another strategic aspect of the competition. You have to evaluate where you are in the order and decide on whether or not the upgrade is worth risking something better coming up later on.

Count me in!

Definitely going to make and send in lists this year for a larger percentage of the regionals so I don’t get hammered weeks 4 and 5 due to not having time to attend all of the actual drafts.

You know what, I’ll take a shot at this. I’m pretty sure I know what I’m doing (based on talking with other people and looking at the FF IRI thread), so let’s get 'er done!*

Why not. As a head scout, I have the data, and this IS what I enjoy…

What is the time between when the list for regionals/districts are announced and when we pick?

We usually start drafting on the first of December. A schedule will be announced when the event dates are made public.

A head scout with data on the future is a head scout worth getting to know. :stuck_out_tongue:

By tradition, the first of December is the first day of drafting. Ed has indicated that that might be moved up to right around Thanksgiving weekend.

As a reminder, you do not have to show up to every draft, but missing 5 drafts in a row means you get a warning PM; missing the next draft means that you are out of the league and your teams become available (via the waiver process, if we are indeed still planning on doing that).

Lists are accepted for all drafts; send them to whoever is running the draft and let Ed or myself know that you’ve sent them in (or send us a copy). This is so we don’t say, “Hey, so-and-so hasn’t shown up in 5 drafts” when you’ve really sent lists in to Vikesrock for two drafts that he’s running in the middle.

I’ve started a separate thread to discuss some of the details of the waiver process before the season starts; it’s at http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?p=970344#post970344

It would be cool, but by no means required, if someone could link me and others to a list of teams for each event. It’s really hard to find a list of just team numbers instead of a list with numbers, full names, cities, etc.

Chris, you should check out frclinks.com made by WFFA Pat Fairbank. for example, teams at wisconsin in 2009 would be found by going to frclinks.com/e/wi/2009

Easiest way I’ve come up with is to copy/paste the FIRST team list into Notepad. Then load the txt file into Excel. This will put the team numbers all in a single column. From there you can either work with them in Excel or copy/paste or export them back to a txt file.

Thanks for the tips guys.

Here’s a probably silly change: So you know how the first round is 6 times as important as the second and third in nearly every draft? Why don’t we do “1-x x-1 x-1” picking instead of “1-x x-1 1-x” picking to compensate?

It’s actually pretty easy to put together a good alliance from the middle/bottom of the order, if you know what you’re doing. I ended up #7 (out of 22) last year pre-championships despite having mid-bottom picks most rounds, #6 if you include the Championships (where I picked #7 in all 4 drafts).

This despite using standard serpentine…

By the third round, most people are either out of teams on their list, or don’t care between two teams, so why not go 1-x in round 3?

Last year was fun! I’ll play again this time. Thanks in advance to Ed and all the others who run drafts, score events, etc.!

A couple of updates from the waiver discussion:

Waiver periods will be no shorter than 48 hours from when a team is posted here as attending, but no longer than midnight of the following Sunday (if a Sunday midnight falls before the 48 hours, the team will carry over to the following Sunday). This gives plenty of time to see that 1114 is now going to DC or 46 has finally decided to go to the Magnolia Regional and get a claim in.

During the time between a draft ending and midnight that night, no team will be sent to waivers, unless their owner was kicked out of the league (or dropped voluntarily).

PMs or open posts will be acceptable as waiver claims; the team that would be dropped should be included (so that whoever is processing waiver claims doesn’t have to track you down). If the team is missing, just note that when you make a claim. (Missing teams also move you up the priority list.)

I’ve never played before but i’ll give it a shot!
