I’m not familiar with the software - is it easy enough to convert a 3D Studio Max file into something Inventor can open, or can Inventor open/convert the file directly?
I created the individual parts for the field in Inventor then exported them and assembled them in 3Ds Max because I am more familiar with that program. Inventor does not allow for things to be imported into it so I don’t know if there is any way to convert the file. If you like I would be more than happy to give you the individual part files which are inventor files and you can assemble them that way. But if you are trying to build robots and simulate them on the playing field, using 3Ds is not hard. You can build the robots in inventor and then export them to 3Ds (use .sat file format for importing and exporting between these two programs, I find it simpler). It will import to scale with the rest of the field. You can then move/rotate the robot and field to your liking. 3Ds has the view cube like inventor and it works the same in both programs. To move objects, select them and then select the move tool which can be found directly under the modifier tab (looks like an x/y plane). The rotate tool is the circular button right next to it. To move the screen view, use the hand tool in the bottom right corner. Next to it is the orbit tool for the viewport and near those two is a magnifying glass which will allow you to zoom in and out. Those are the only two options I can think of that would be of any help. If you have anymore questions I would be more than happy to answer them for you.
Is it possible that we could get the ipt files and/or the iam files? We weren’t able to get the .max file open in inventor.

All of them are standard inventor files so you shouldn’t have any problems opening them.
Here is a very light weight CAD Surface Model of the 2011 FRC Field for LogoMotion.
This reduces the model size from Megabytes to Kilobytes and is easier to manipulate as a single part. You cant change the field.
A student sent me a parasolid file and I imported the data into SolidWorks The directions on how to extract faces of an assembly and make them into a single part is located below.
I also provided the link to obtain the light weight field model file as a 3D surface for ProE, Inventor and other file formats.
When dealing with large assemblies and school computers you want to work with as light weight models as possible.
I regret that we cannot import ProE Wildfire 5/Creo directly into SolidWorks 2010-2011. However, if the file is exported into a neutral file format 1. Parasolid (first choice), 2. STEP, 3, IGES, we do just fine. You would have to add the weight of the component into the Assembly Mass Properties window.
If their is a CAD model you need in native SolidWorks format let me know and I will do my best to create it in a timely manner.
But my recommendation is for the kop, check to see if they were included in the 2010kop we did, located inside of SolidWorks Design Library, to import only the files you really need, add the weight to the imported models. Then move on to your value added - your design of the arm, gripper, and other important elements.

Marie, thank you for the field model. It seems to be missing the middle scoring posts, however. If they are in there I can’t see them or find them in the feature manager. I’m using SolidWorks 2011.
