I remember in 2012 that a lot of “very sticky” wheels did not like the bridges, so we are trying to acquire the correct plastic coverings for our wooden field elements. I strongly suggest everyone test their wheels on HDPE and Polycarb samples, especially at the appropriate incline angle. You do not want to get to the competition and find that your wheels do not grip these plastics well and you can no longer get on the BATTER or up the PLATFORM edges.
PLATFORM
The PLATFORM uses sanded Polycarb, but it is unclear how this is sanded and if the slick or sanded side is facing out. I could not find sanded polycarb as something from online manufacturers so I assume it was done to one side of a standard Polycarb sheet using a belt or disc sander. If the sanded side is facing out - what grit is used to sand the face?
BATTER
The drawings all list the BATTER covering as .125 grey HDPE with smooth finish
MOAT
There was a mysterious piece of slick blue Igus material (iglide tribo tape) in the kit that looks like it goes in the center of the moat based on the image in the manual. Nothing is on the BOM for the field drawings. Hopefully there is nothing slick in the middle.
SALLY PORT
Sally port door is .125 polycarb, though I doubt it will be driven on =)
PORTCULLIS
PORTCULLIS door is .125 polycarb, though I doubt it will be driven on =)
There appears to be a conflict in the material on some field pieces
CHEVAL DE FRISE
Manual Page 6 (PDF Page 12) says “The Cheval de Frise is a series of four (4) independently tilting, weighted HDPE platforms.”
Drawing GE-16028 lists the material as “Material: Clear Polycarb, .5” Thick"
This could be a big difference depending on wheel material!
The field video does not mention the material of the C de F
DRAWBRIDGE
Manual Page 7 (PDF Page 13) says “The Drawbridge is an arched gateway with a door that lowers toward the NEUTRAL ZONE. The door is made from polycarbonate and is 37 in. tall and ¼ in. thick.”
Drawing GE-16172 lists the material as “Material: Clear Polycarbonate, .125 Thick”
The field video says these are polycarb, but does not say the thickness
